Deadline reports that a feature film is in the works based on the popular Disney theme park ride IT'S A SMALL WORLD. Jon Turteltaub (National Treasure) is set to direct.

The attraction, which celebrates its 50th anniversary today, has been a family favorite since the opening of Disneyland. "It's a Small World" features over 300 audio-animatronic dolls from around the world singing the the catchy title song, which promotes peace and understanding.

The song was written by famed Disney songwriters Robert S. Sherman and Richard B. Sherman after they were instructed by Walt Disney himself to write a tune that could be easily translated into multiple languages.

Jared Stern will pen the script and will produce along with Turteltaub and The Lego Movie's Dan Lin. The studio is considering the project to become a potential movie franchise for the studio.
