Blue Collar Dance, Ill Movements and The City of Calgary proudly present LiveStyle - Calgary's 3rd Annual Urban Arts Festival, Saturday, May 1, 2010 at Olympic Plaza from 2 pm to 6 pm. This free all ages event brings together the best of Calgary's urban arts scene together for a local showcase of music, dance, art and spoken word. The festival will be highlighted by the Grammy winning hip hop group De La Soul.

"LiveStyle: Calgary's Urban Arts Festival enhances the vibrancy of our city by celebrating the urban arts culture through an arts festival that appeals to a youth demographic. This event aims to demystify that culture by providing a safe welcoming place to bring exposure to the artists and art forms and to showcase talents through a public celebratory experience," says the City of Calgary's Jody Williams. "LiveStyle breaks down pre-conceived notions of urban culture and acknowledges its relevant art forms by honouring and respecting its founding qualities. We want to create opportunities for increased collaboration amongst all partners in the community by being accessible, crossing cultures, connecting our youth, and building bridges of awareness between artists and audiences throughout Calgary."
De La Soul formed in 187, are best known for their eclectic sampling, quirky lyrics, and their contributions to the evolution of the jazz rap and alternative hip hop subgenres. The band's debut album, 3 Feet High and Rising, has been hailed as a hip-hop masterpiece. De La Soul's light rhythms, laid-back raps, and quasi-hippie attitude have paved the way for this group to make a distinct impact on the music world with 12 albums to their credit. They are also know for their collaborations with such artists as Black Eyed Peas, Propellerheads , Queen Latifah, as well as their 2006 Grammy winning collaboration with Gorillaz on the single Feel Good Inc.

Before De La Soul closes the festival, local artist, such as Ricca Razor Sharp, Equazn, Dragon Fli Empire, Blist, Exzam, Once Circle, Tara Wilson, Lady C, Raw Illest, Wakefield Brewster, Jen Kunlire, Deezuz, IP, Cstylz and DJs C-Sik & Roofeo will fill the LiveStyle stage with local urban energy. The LiveStyle festival will also feature a two on two BBoy and BGirl Battle. $2000 will be awarded to the top dancers.
