You know how some people make you feel very unaccomplished because they've already had so much success with their careers, but they're a few years younger than you and you feel like you're behind the eight ball as a result? That's the feeling that Saoirse Ronan gives me. Make no mistake: I mean that as a huge complement. To have already achieved so much at such a young age is something to be proud of; something that will inevitably make the rest of us feel like we should get up off of the couch, turn off Netflix, and be productive.

At the ripe old age of 21, Saoirse Ronan is already a two-time Academy Award nominee. The first nod (Best Supporting Actress) came along for her role as Briony Tallis in 2007's ATONEMENT, and the second nomination (Best Actress) for her role as Irish immigrant Eilis Lacey in BROOKLYN. In addition to recognition from the Academy, Ronan has also merited three BAFTA nominations, two Golden Globe nominations, and two Screen Actors Guild Award nominations.

Ronan as Agatha in THE GRAND BUDAPEST HOTEL

Although she burst out onto the scene after ATONEMENT, it wasn't until she starred in Peter Jackson's film adaptation of THE LOVELY BONES alongside Mark Wahlberg, Susan Sarandon, and Stanley Tucci that she became known to the masses. Ronan's never been one to be pigeon-holed into a certain type of film, though, which is likely why she's enjoyed so much success. She's juggled all the genres, from period pieces (like ATONEMENT) to action films (such as 2011's VIOLET & DAISY), and from comedies (Wes Anderson's THE GRAND BUDAPEST HOTEL) to horrors (go watch 2012's BYZANTIUM) - and she's done it masterfully.

These skills are soon going to be on display once again when Ronan makes her Broadway debut this March in the revival of THE CRUCIBLE as Abigail Williams, one of the first accusers during the famous Salem witch trials. Trust me, you won't want to miss this one (although it will be easy to miss if you don't get on it right now - it's a strictly limited engagement) - Ben Whishaw and Sophie Okonedo are Ronan's co-stars.

Sure, she may be nominated against powerhouses like Cate Blanchett, but this year's Best Actress nominations seem to favor the young - Jennifer Lawrence and Brie Larson are also nominated. Who knows, maybe Ronan will be lucky enough to nab that golden statue. She certainly deserves it.
