In Painted Bread, the life of artist Frida Kahlo is explored through a series of self portraits which come to life onstage, dramatically capturing her boisterous sense of humor, her love of Mexican culture and her passion for painting. Kahlo's works often combined affection and humor, sadness and sarcasm, the intimate and the collective. McCarl's play echoes the same.
