Review: ITCH, Opera Holland Park
by Franco Milazzo - June 04, 2025
Opera Holland Park has never shied away from audacious programming, and with Jonathan Dove’s Itch, it plunges boldly into radioactive territory—literally. Originally seen here in 2023 and based on Simon Mayo’s YA novel about a teenage element hunter who stumbles upon a potentially world-altering discovery, this opera bubbles with energy, invention and musical firepower.
Review: PHANTOM PEAK: THE BURNING BLIMP FESTIVAL, Phantom Peak
by Franco Milazzo - June 04, 2025

Guest Blog: 'My Preference Is To Create An Alternative Floating Reality': Artistic Director Henry Maynard On The Flabbergast Process And Why Shakespeare Is Better Weird
by Guest Author - June 04, 2025
It is without doubt that the plays that we attribute to Shakespeare are genius. They examine what it is to be a human and have survived centuries and multiple adaptations precisely because of this fact: love, jealousy, hatred and grief are all the same regardless of whether your father was a Duke from Verona or a Welsh coal miner.
Review: FIDDLER ON THE ROOF, Barbican
by Alexander Cohen - June 04, 2025
Jordan Fein understands that Fiddler on the Roof is more than just Jews and jazz hands. For him, it’s as much a Greek tragedy that cuts to the heart of the human condition as much as it is a piece of summer escapism. Philip Roth infamously derided it as 'shtetl kitsch’. He might have retracted his comment if he saw Fein’s psychologically streamlined production, now proudly revived and armed with thirteen Olivier nominations.
Review: IN PRAISE OF LOVE, Orange Tree Theatre
by Aliya Al-Hassan - June 04, 2025
Terence Rattigan's work remains a stalwart of the British stage. Richmond's Orange Tree Theatre has a particular fondness for his lesser revived work; lighter, frothier plays such as French Without Tears and While the Sun Shines. In Praise of Love, Rattigan’s poignant penultimate play, is a different proposition.

Review: LETTERS FROM MAX, Hampstead Theatre
by Cindy Marcolina - June 03, 2025
Based on Sarah Ruhl’s eponymous 2018, the stage adaptation of Letters from Max is downright harrowing. It follows her correspondence with a brilliant former student of hers, Max Ritvo, whose sudden cancer recurrence in his early 20s echoes in Ruhl’s life. As the pair discuss illness and artistry, the real power of the poet comes into focus.
