Written by Caleen Sinnette Jennings, directed by Danielle A. Drakes, and starring Deirdre Staples, this staged reading is part of Theater J's Festival of Favorites and Firsts. Set in summer 1962 in Queens, New York, the play follows 12-year-old Jacqueline Marie Butler as she is transferred to a progressive, predominantly Jewish school in Greenwich Village, where she discovers a new city and a new world. The play had its world premiere at Theater J in 2015 and went on to win awards across North America and have an Off-Broadway run.
