Avaaz is a solo performance written and performed by Michael Shayan, structured around a Nowruz (Persian New Year) dinner party. As he portrays his mother Roya, Shayan explores his Iranian heritage, his family's complicated history, and the journey that brought them from Iran to the United States. The piece blends humor and poignancy as it examines questions of identity and belonging across cultures and generations.
