Toronto City Opera presents a fully staged production of Jacques Offenbach's operetta Orpheus in the Underworld, featuring a full orchestra provided by the North York Concert Orchestra conducted by Rafael Luz. Directed and choreographed by Amanda Testini, the operetta turns classical mythology on its head in a witty, satirical romp through Ancient Greece, bursting with infectious melodies including the famous Can-Can. Soprano Teresa Tucci stars as Eurydice, with tenor Jeffrey Liu as Orpheus, tenor Christian Matta as Pluto, baritone Matthew Black as Jupiter, and mezzo-soprano Jada Alexiou as Public Opinion, among others. Costume design is by Alexandra Christofides, with lighting and projection design by Nathan Bruce.
