The National Ballet of Canada's Summer Season opens with a double bill at the Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts. The program features the world premiere of Kismet, choreographed by Canadian artist Jera Wolfe, which explores the concept of fate and humanity's relationship with nature through classical ballet, contemporary movement, and Indigenous expression, set to two movements from Ezio Bosso's Symphony No. 2. Sharing the bill is Helen Pickett's Emma Bovary, co-directed by James Bonas, which returns with additional scenes since its 2023 premiere; inspired by Gustave Flaubert's novel Madame Bovary, it explores Emma's yearning for a life beyond her constrained existence, delving into desire, betrayal, and the search for personal fulfillment.
