Earlier this week, Drama Desk and Tony Award winner Laura Benanti ('The Sound of Music Live!', Gypsy, Women On The Verge of a Nervous Breakdown) hosted the 59th Annual Drama Desk Awards at The Town Hall (123 W. 43rd Street). Big winners for the night included Audra McDonald, Bryan Cranston, Jessie Mueller, and Neil Patrick Harris and Jefferson Mays- who tied for Outstanding Actor in a Musical. Yesterday afternoon, the 2014 Tony Award nominees celebrated the week of the the 68th Annual Tony Awards at New York City's biggest landmark- the Empire State Building. Attendees included: Adriane Lenox, Anika Larsen. Anika Noni Rose, Bryce Pinkham, Celia Keenan-Bolger, James Monroe Iglehart, Jarrod Spector, Jefferson Mays, Jessie Mueller, Kelli O'Hara, Lauren Worsham, Lena Hall, Mary Bridget Davies, Neil Patrick Harris, Nick Cordero, Ramin Karimloo, Reed Birney, Samuel Barnett, and Sutton Foster. The 32nd Annual Fred & Adele Astaire Awards were held on Monday, June 2 at 7:30pm at NYU's Skirball Center for the Performing Arts. Princeton Day School Takes Home Seven Rising Star Awards; Paper Mill Announces 2014 Winners!

The 2014 Paper Mill Playhouse Rising Star Awards ceremony took place at Paper Mill Playhouse on Tuesday, June 3rd at 7:30pm with an audience of over 1,200. Princeton Day School came out on top, winning Outstanding Overall Production of a Musical for their production of Urinetown. A total of 29 awards were presented along with five scholarships and other cash prizes.

There is little doubt who is the reigning queen of Broadway. With five Tony Awards and eight nominations in just 20 years, Audra McDonald has held that title for quite a while now. In addition to her prolific stage career, she also has found time to do turns on TV and have a recording and touring career. If Audra wins her sixth Tony this Sunday, she will become the first actor to do so in the four major acting categories.

Just last night, the Tony Honors for Excellence in the Theatre were handed out at the Tony Honors Cocktail Party, a private cocktail reception at the Paramount Hotel's Diamond Horseshoe. The Tony Honors for Excellence in the Theatre were established in 1990 and are awarded annually to institutions, individuals and/or organizations that have demonstrated extraordinary achievement in theatre, but are not eligible in any of the established Tony Award categories. This year's Tony Honors will be presented to Joe Benincasa (President & CEO of The Actors Fund), Joan Marcus (Broadway photographer), and Charlotte Wilcox (general manager).
