In addition to serving as theatreWashington's board chair since 1997, Shargai has been instrumental in advocating for the entire Washington theatre community. As a board member and patron of several flagship theatres, he played a leading role in the area's artistic renaissance, which saw the number of professional theatres grow exponentially, creating an environment that now supports more than 200 productions annually.

The Tony Awards Administration Committee met today for the third time this season to determine the eligibility of five Broadway productions for the 2014 American Theatre Wing's Tony Awards®, presented by The Broadway League and the American Theatre Wing. The Tony Awards Administration Committee will meet a total of four times throughout the 2013-2014 season to decide the eligibility for the 68th Annual Tony Awards.

The Tony Awards have announced that the Paramount Hotel will also host the Meet the Nominees Press Reception on Wednesday, April 30th and the 2014 Tony Nominee Luncheon on Tuesday, May 20th. Additionally, the Paramount Hotel will host the 2014 Tony Honors Cocktail Reception on Monday, June 2nd, which will present the Tony Honors for Excellence in the Theatre, the Regional Theatre Award and celebrate the 2014 Special Award Recipients. The 2014 Tony Award Nominations on Tuesday, April 29, 2014. The live ceremony will take place at the Paramount Hotel's newly renovated Diamond Horseshoe.

Months of anticipation for hundreds of local high school students is about to reach a fever pitch. On March 18th at 7:00 AM, students from 19 local high schools will gather on the Long Center City Terrace, where officials will announce the nominees for the inaugural Greater Austin High School Musical Theater Awards. Attending students are encouraged to show up on the terrace with signs and plenty of school spirit as they cheer their respective schools on. This announcement is the kick-off to the extraordinary, Tony's-style awards ceremony one month later, on April 17th.
