Levine Center for the Arts History
Knight Theater, The Bechtler Museum of Modern Art, Mint Museum Uptown, and The Harvey B. Gantt Center for African-American Arts + Culture are all located on the Levine Center for the Arts campus. These new structures were part of the 2004 Cultural Facilities Master Plan. Each building is unique.
The stainless steel, curving lines of Knight Theater, designed by Atlanta-based tvsdesign, contrast well with the striated terracotta facade of our closest neighbor, The Bechtler (designed by Mario Botta), with which we share a lobby space. In addition to programming in Knight Theater, events like Charlotte Jazz Festival and Breakin’ Convention have taken place outside on Levine Plaza and at nearby Romare Bearden Park.
