The Wash at The Studio

A co-production between The Studio and Powerstories Theatre, this Kelundra Smith play tells the story of the 1881 Atlanta Washerwomen's Strike, when Black laundresses organized the first successful interracial labor strike of the post-Civil War era. Directed by Erica Sutherlin, the cast includes Andresia Moseley, Jemier Jenkins, Jada Griffin, Marjorie Joseph, Nadine Young, and Holly Marie Weber. Set almost entirely among the washtubs, the play follows six women who argue, gossip, grieve, and organize, building a union in everything but name. It is the first produced work in Smith's Reconstruction Trilogy and marks the Florida premiere of the piece.
