Stageworks Theatre presents the Florida premiere production in a staged reading format of Bellini and the Sultan: A Comedy in Istanbul by local playwright Ed Stevens, one of the 2013 winners of Stageworks' Breaking New Ground Playwrights Competition. The Competition is part of Stageworks' landmark program to encourage and nurture new works of theater, which includes Stagewrights, the company's longstanding bi-monthly playwriting workshop and its highly successful TampaWorks evening of plays about the Tampa Bay area.

The full cast has been announced for Bernarda Alba, based on the The House of Bernarda Alba by Federico Garcia Lorca and adapted into a new musical by Michael John LaChiusa (The Wild Party). This exciting musical adaptation opens at freeFall Theatre in St. Petersburg, FL on March 15.

Tax season is upon us, and if you're looking for ways to score a refund, here's an example of what NOT to do. Jon Trachtman and Leslie Arthur, out-of-work musicians rooming together in New York, are listing each other as married on tax returns to save money. The day of reckoning comes when the I.R.S. informs the 'couple' they're going to be investigated by a Mr. Spinner. Leslie masquerades as a housewife, aided by Jon's fiancee, Kate. Complicating matters further, Leslie and Kate are having an affair behind Jon's back, Jon's mother drops in unexpectedly to meet her son's fiancee, and Leslie's ex-girlfriend shows up demanding to know why Leslie has changed and won't see her anymore…

Gary Valentine got his start in show business on the stand up comedy stage. After an appearance at the Montreal Comedy Festival, he left his native New York for heavier traffic in Los Angeles. There, he quickly landed spots on various talk shows including, "The Late Late Show with Craig Kilborn," "Late Night with Conan O'Brien" and the "Tonight Show with Jay Leno", among others. He's been headlining comedy clubs and theaters for the past fifteen years.
