Asolo Rep's 2013 New Stages Tour of ROMEO & JULIET to Kick Off 10/1

Asolo Repertory Theatre presents its 2013 New Stages Tour, an FSU/Asolo Conservatory for Actor Training production of ROMEO & JULIET, adapted from the play by William Shakespeare. This 45-minute version includes post-show discussions at each performance. As its fourth touring season begins, New Stageswill travel to schools and community organizations across the state of Florida. Last year, over 18,000 audience members were reached throughout the state, with 60 performances at 45 venues. This new adaptation of ROMEO & JULIET by Lauryn E. Sasso and Dmitry Troyanovsky, and directed by Troyanovsky, will embark on a two month tour beginning October 1, 2013. Performances can be scheduled by contacting the Education and Outreach staff at Asolo Rep.

For 16 years, the Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall has been a partner in education with the Sarasota County School Board. Serving approximately 25,000 students each year, the Van Wezel is happy to announce that it has been awarded a highly competitive education grant given to just 10 theatres across the country by The Broadway League, which is the national trade association for the Broadway industry, composed of over 700 theatre owners and operators, producers, presenters, and general managers in North America.

THE EMERGING MASTERS PLAYREADING SERIES will focus on works by established American playwrights in mid-career, whose plays have been honored and widely produced, but whose name may not yet be a household word. Each year, five works by one such American playwright will be highlighted in five public staged readings performed by professional actors. One of the five plays will be considered for full production in a future American Stage season. A RAISIN IN THE SUN will open on October 4 and run through the 20th, Thursdays to Saturdays at 8PM, and Sundays at 3PM. On October 3rd, there will be a preview in which all seats $10. Opening night on October 4th will be $35, and tickets will include music, drinks and munchies, for the show only, it will be $26.00. All other nights, tickets will be $26.00.

Florida Studio Theatre announces that subscriptions are now on sale for the 2013-14 Mainstage Season. While most of the productions are still being considered for the season, the opening of the Mainstage will bring Monty Python's Spamalot to life in the Gompertz Theatre. It will open on November 15, 2014 and run through January 5, 2014. Florida Studio Theatre announces their participation in The Art of the Costume 'Reinvented', a costume exhibit through the State College of Florida. The exhibit takes places from September 6, 2013 through October 16, 2013 and is free to the public. This exhibition is a showcase for outrageous, extreme and sometimes unconventional theatrical costumes, created from non-traditional and or recycled materials. An opening reception will be held on Friday, September 6, 2013 from 6pm - 8pm at the Fine Art Gallery at SCF Bradenton, 5840 26th Street West.
