Spoleto Festival USA General Director Nigel Redden today unveiled the official 2010 Festival poster, "From Rhode Island to South Carolina," created by acclaimed American artist Maya Lin. Commissioned for the 2010 Festival, the work joins an impressive list of Festival posters created by a broad range of influential artists. The official Festival poster is available for purchase online at spoletousa.org, by phone at 843.579.3100, or at the box office at Gaillard Auditorium, 77 Calhoun Street. The price is $25.

Maya Lin has maintained a balance between art and architecture throughout her career, creating a remarkable body of work that includes large-scale site-specific installations, studio artworks, architecture, and memorials. Utilizing technological methods to study and visualize the natural world, she merges rational order with notions of beauty and translates them into sculptures, drawings, and environmental installations. From recent works such as Storm King Wavefield to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, Lin continuously presents innovative ways of looking at the world around us. Her work investigates our relationship to the environment, creating a systematic ordering of the land that is directly tied to history, language, and time.

Lin is the recipient of the 2009 National Medal of Arts, a Presidential Design Award, and a National Endowment for the Arts Artist's Award, among others. She is a member of both the American Academy of Arts and Letters and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and was inducted into the National Women's Hall of Fame in 2005.
