The Firebird at The Teatro, Montecasino

Directed by Janni Younge and choreographed by Jay Pather, The Firebird sets Stravinsky's score within a contemporary South African fusion of puppetry and dance. At its heart is the Seeker, a young woman on a quest to unleash her creative power, encountering forces that challenge her to discover her own capacity for transformation. The production features towering puppet creatures, dynamic choreography, and a 15-person ensemble including Crystal Finck, Elvis Sibeko, Siyamthanda Sinani, Nkosinathi Mngomezulu, Samkelo Zihlangu, and Jacqueline Manyaapelo. It has previously received standing ovations at the Hollywood Bowl, Ravinia, The Mann Center, and Wolf Trap, and this marks its Johannesburg premiere.
