Cameron Mackintosh's Oliver!, directed by Steven Stead, is based on Charles Dickens' novel Oliver Twist and features a score by Lionel Bart. The production follows Oliver, a young orphan who escapes a workhouse and becomes entangled with characters including Fagin, Nancy, and the Artful Dodger in Victorian London. Presented by Pieter Toerien and Cape Town Opera, the staging features South African musical theatre performers alongside a cast of children, with dynamic choreography and richly detailed costumes. Following the Cape Town season, the production will transfer to The Teatro at Montecasino in Johannesburg in 2027.
