[Rapid City, SD] – Stevens High School will present JABBERWOCK ASYLUM in the Milo Winter Theater on January 31, 2022 and February 1, 2022 featuring a company of over 50 students on and offstage.

Jabberwock Asylum is loosely based on some of Lewis Carroll's most famous works, including Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. Jabberwock Asylum was written by Stephen D. Farruggia and was originally produced by Seraphim Theatrical Entertainment in 2016 & 2017 with major success. Because of its growing popularity, Farruggia adapted the play into a 45 minute edition for Stevens High School's entry into the 2022 SDHSAA State One Act festival hosted by Rapid City Central, taking place on February 3-5.

Stevens will host two home shows, January 31 & February 1 at 7pm in the Milo Winter Theater at Stevens High School, 4215 Raider Rd, Rapid City, SD. Tickets are $3 for K-12 students, $5 for adults, and are sold at the door.

The year is 1888. Alice (Kenna Stewart) has grown up and is now committed to an insane asylum. Locked away inside Jabberwock Asylum, she is surrounded by inmates and asylum personnel who all remind her of her past childhood adventures. A dangerous Dr. Scarlett (Tae Swanson) rules over this asylum, performing unnecessary surgeries and experiments on her patients. Alice, with the help of her childhood doctor, Dr. Carroll (Noah Westergaard), tries desperately to piece the truth together of her past, her Wonderland, and her reality. Did it all truly happen, or is she actually insane? Haunted by the image of the Cheshire Cat (Ansley Eddy), who teases and riddles with her still, Alice is left to fight for her survival and her sanity against Dr. Scarlett and the dangerous roster of inmates locked away inside Jabberwock Asylum.

This production is rated PG-13 due to the scare factor.

Cast and Creative team for Jabberwock Asylum at Milo Winter Theater

Cast

Kenna Stewart

Alice
Kenna Stewart (Alice) is thrilled to be attending State One Acts for the first time! Although she is new to One Acts, she is not new to theatre. She has been a part of theatre since the age of 9 and is so happy she is able to get back into it before leaving for college. In the fall, she will be attending Temple University and studying psychology. She also wants to give a big thank you to the entire cast for being such a safe space for her and a huge thank you to Stephen for all of the amazing years she spent acting under him. This will be her third time performing in Jabberwock Asylum (twice as Rose and this year as Alice) and it has hands down been the most influential show she has ever been a part of. Overall, she hopes she can do as much good for this show as it has done for her.

Tae Swanson

Dr. Scarlett
Tae Swanson (Dr. Scarlett) is excited to be back on the SHS stage to perform amongst her peers for the One Act play. Over the last few years, she has participated in shows at Stevens (Failure: A Love Story, Side Show), Black Hills Community Theater (The Scottish Play, Beauty and the Beast, Julius Caesar) and Seraphim Theater (Searchers of the Black Death). This is her second time performing in a show written by Stephen Farruggia, so she is ready to hear some screams!

Noah Westergaard

Dr. Carroll
Noah Westergaard (Dr. Carroll) is super excited to act on the SHS stage again after a two year crew hiatus. With over 26 acting credits through the years: The Who's Tommy, The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe, The Princess and the Pea (BHCT) A Christmas Carol (Seraphim) The Outsiders, Welcome to the Rest of Your Lives, Side Show, (Stevens) and in March, BHCT's musical Urinetown. Noah is happy to end his high school career with four state one act experiences, all while saving the best for last! Besides theatre, Noah dedicates his time to Concert Choir, Singers, Drama Club (President) FBLA, National Honors Society, his friends, his nieces and nephew, and volunteering in the community. Noah would like to thank the amazing cast and crew around him, coffee, his parents, the other club officers, and his friends, for getting him where he is today. Thank you for coming, and enjoy the show!

Ansley Eddy

Cheshire Cat
Ansley Eddy (Cheshire Cat) Ansley is so excited to be a part of Jabberwock Asylum cast. She usually devotes her time to scene construction crew and is so excited to be going back for the spring musical: Into the Woods. Aside from performing, Ansley loves many other forms of art, including crocheting, painting, and writing. Ansley looks forward to attend- ing USD next year for pre-physical therapy.

Nick Tilles

Harris
Nicholas Tilles (Harris) is really excited to perform in his first play. This is the second production he's been a part of, the first being Peter and the Starcatcher, and he can't wait for everyone to enjoy it as much as he does. In his free time, he practices his saxo- phone, reads, and has fun with friends. He would like to thank you all for coming and hopes you enjoy the show.
