Following her critically acclaimed highly successful all-male productions of ‘H.M.S. Pinafore’ and ‘The Pirates of Penzance’, Sasha Regan returns to London’s Wilton’s Music Hall - the only surviving Grand Music Hall in the world - with Gilbert and Sullivan’s irresistible ‘The Mikado’.

A young orphan and his mates are shipped off from Victorian England to a distant island ruled by the evil King Zarboff. They know nothing of the mysterious trunk in the captain’s cabin, which contains a precious, otherworldly cargo. At sea, the boys are discovered by a precocious young girl named Molly, a Starcatcher-in-training who realizes that the trunk’s precious cargo is starstuff, a celestial substance so powerful that it must never fall into the wrong hands. When the ship is taken over by pirates – led by the fearsome Black Stache, a villain determined to claim the trunk and its treasure for his own – the journey quickly becomes a thrilling adventure.

Ahoy! Peninsula Youth Theatre (PYT) presents Gilbert & Sullivan's vivacious musical classic, The Pirates of Penzance, playing at the Mountain View Center for the Performing Arts this May. This hilarious comedy operetta features a slave to duty, a winsome maiden, bumbling police, a lying major-general, not-so-dutiful daughters and a pirate king who is too tenderhearted to make piracy pay.
This subversive, loopy, and fantastically eccentric take-think banjos, beach balls, and guitars-on Gilbert and Sullivan's preposterous musical took audiences in Chicago by storm when presented by rebel theatre-makers The Hipocrites. Frederic was mistakenly apprenticed as a young boy to a band of sentimental pirates. Now 21, he falls head-over-heels for the Major-General's daughter and forswears the buccaneer's life forever, or so he thinks. This buoyant, award-winning Pirates of Penzance by Sean Graney and Kevin O'Donnell and featuring just 12 actors (who also serve as the orchestra) is an irrevent and fresh homage to a world turned upside-down for Gilbert and Sullivan diehard fans and newcomers alike.
Back in the late 60s, groups of people would meet up at an agreed-upon place to attend a "happening," defined as a partly improvised or spontaneous piece of theatrical or other artistic performance, typically involving audience participation. This description is exactly how I would describe what is taking place at the Pasadena Playhouse through February 25, 2018, with Gilbert and Sullivan's PIRATES OF PENZANCE as reimagined by the Chicago-based Hypocrites acting troupe who turns the classic on its head, surprising audiences with a raucous 80-minute beach party that blends the original operetta with modern day attire, a central stage area from which the tossing of beach balls is encouraged, kiddie wading pools are available for seats, and lots of audience participation is expected during every moment the 10 energetic actor-musicians are in the house.
A raucous, zany beach party, complete with swimming pools, Tiki Bar and beach balls, begins previews tonight, November 29, in a special, 80-minute holiday adaptation of Pirates of Penzance at NYU Skirball, running through December 10. BroadwayWorld has a first look at the cast in action below!

The production opens at Rose Theatre Kingston tonight 8 September, and runs until 16 September. BroadwayWorld has a first look at the cast in action below!
The Pirates of Penzance is Gilbert and Sullivan's fifth collaboration and follows young Frederic, an orphan who has mistakenly been apprenticed to an ineffectual but raucous band of pirates. He disavows the pirates' way of life and falls for the beautiful daughter of the Major-General Stanley, Mabel. But when the Pirate King discovers that General Stanley has lied about being an orphan to keep the pirates from stealing all of his belongings and carrying off his bevy of beautiful daughters, an 'ingenious paradox' may prevent the budding romance and lead to the death of 'The very model of a modern Major-General.' Pirates performs September 7th through September 23rd at MadLab Theatre and Gallery, 227 N. Thirt St. (Downtown) Columbus, Ohio. For more info visit http://www.srotheatre.org/
The World Premiere of Disney and Jerry Bruckheimer Films' PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: DEAD MEN TELL NO TALES was held in Shanghai, China, at Shanghai Disney Resort
Let's get this straight. The pirates, who take pity on orphans, are really peers of the realm. The 21-year-old, who has sworn to put them behind bars, is really only five. And the policemen, whose lot is not a happy one, are really, really hopeless at foiling felons…
