HAMILTON says goodbye to Off-Broadway!

The world premiere production of HAMILTON, inspired by the book 'Alexander Hamilton' by Ron Chernow, with book, music, and lyrics by Lin-Manuel Miranda and directed by Thomas Kail, concludes its run tonight, May 3, at The Public Theater. But this is not the end of the road for the company. HAMILTON will start performances on Broadway on July 13 at the Richard Rodgers Theatre, where tickets are already on sale.

The Public Theater just presented a special 40th anniversary tribute to A CHORUS LINE last night, April 16 in honor of the first performance of this legendary musical that premiered in The Public's Newman Theater 40 years ago and went on to make musical theater history. To commemorate this landmark event, the cast of the critically-acclaimed musical HAMILTON, currently playing on the same Newman stage, presented original cast members of A CHORUS LINE with a plaque that will hang in the Ford Foundation Lobby of The Public. Major Broadway creatives are coming out for HAMILTON!

Miranda has just announced via Twitter that the cast recording will hit shelves this fall. He writes: 'Hamilton Cast Album? September. Double Album. All of it. That's all I can tell you.'

An off-Broadway poster, signed by the full cast, is currently up for auction on eBay. A similar item sold for over $5000 on the site last week- the difference this time is that this item also comes with a voicemail greeting by Lin-Manuel Miranda himself. The description reads: 'If you are in the NYC area, you will have the chance to go backstage after a performance of Hamilton to meet Lin-Manuel Miranda when he records your voice-mail & to receive your signed poster. If you aren't able to come to the NYC area, Lin-Manuel Miranda will record your voice-mail remotely and your poster will be shipped to you.'

At last night's performance, The Tonight Show's Jimmy Fallon and pop singer-turned-musical-composer Sara Bareilles attended the show and of course snapped selfies afterwards. Creator Lin-Manuel Miranda recently went to Tumblr to address buzz about bootlegs of the show. He writes:

Now according to the New York Times, the musical, which has already broken box office records in its off-Broadway run, has sold a whopping $6.5 million in Broadway tickets, in just eleven days at the box office. An additional $4 million has already been purchased in group sales.
