The Muny announced today the directors, choreographers and music directors for The Muny's 2017 Season, which opens on June 12 with Jesus Christ Superstar.

PUFFS or: Seven Increasingly Eventful Years at a Certain School of Magic & Magic, the new Off-Broadway hit that recently opened to rave reviews, had added shows to their weekly schedule due to popular demand at The Elektra Theater (300 West 43rd Street). Starting on November 27, there will be a Sunday matinee performance at 3:00 PM.

The leading ladies sing their hearts out in this incredibly dark, hard rockin' musical treat.

Mile Square Theatre, Hudson County's leading professional theatre, presents a very special fundraising event, The 2nd Annual MST Broadway Cabaret. Current stars from Broadway will perform songs from Broadway past and present on the Mile Square Theatre stage. Proceeds from the event will benefit MST's 2017 season.

Pat Ciamacco, the curmudgeon of glee and horror, is at it again. While it seems almost by chance, the artistic director of Blank Canvas selects the likes of OUR TOWN, TWELVE ANGRY MEN and OF MICE AND MEN. But most often Ciamacco digs up such scripts as THE WILD PARTY (a play about decadence and uninhibited sexual behavior), REEFER MADNESS (the 'truth' about using marijuana), BAT BOY THE MUSICAL (the tale of a large-eyed fanged human child), TRIASSIC PARQ THE MUSICAL (a songfest 65-million years in the making), DEBBIE DOES DALLAS (a stage version of the 1978 pornographic film), and TEXAS CHAINSAW MUSICAL (the story of a handsome serial killer and his overly affectionate momma, staged complete with a 'blood zone,' where members of the audience chose, if they desired, to be bathed in fake blood!)

Today's subjects are living their theatre lives overseeing the nightly operations for one of the most ambitious productions the area has ever seen. It's so big that it took two theatres to co-produce it. I'm speaking of Round House Theatre and Olney Theatre Center's production of Angels in America, Tony Kushner's two-part, nearly-seven-hour Tony Award-winning magnum opus. Millennium Approaches (Part 1) and Perestroika (Part 2) run in repertory through October 30th and are performed at Round House Theatre in Bethesda, MD.

Jobsite continues the 2016-17 season with their third co-production with the Straz Center in the Jaeb Theater (Return to the Forbidden Planet, Silence! The Musical). Bay Area audiences are in for another just-in-time-for-Halloween treat with the Drama Desk Award-nominated LIZZIE, a killer rock musical that is taking the nation by storm. Here is the ultimate - unauthorized - parody of The Silence of the Lambs! In the Academy Award-winning film The Silence of the Lambs, rookie FBI agent Clarice Starling matches wits with the brilliant but insane cannibal, Dr. Hannibal Lecter, to catch the serial killer known only as Buffalo Bill. Clarice must face her own demons and race the clock to unlock Lecter's clues before another innocent girl is killed and skinned by Bill. It's a hair-raising thriller that's kept countless millions on the edges of their seats and permeated the pop lexicon with delightfully creepy quotes like "I ate his liver with some fava beans and a nice Chianti" and of course "It places the lotion in the basket."

A STAR IS BORN - brought vividly to life by award-winning cabarettist Molly Pope - will now include a recently-rediscovered Harold Arlen and Ira Gershwin song, 'I'm Off the Down Beat,' written for the original film, but never used.

 Musical Theatre West (MTW) raises the curtain on its inaugural "Broadway in Concert" series for the 2016-17 season.  Each concert, held at the newly renamed Beverly O'Neill Theater at the Long Beach Convention and Entertainment Center, will feature top Broadway talent, including Davis Gaines (September 24, 2016), Valerie Perri (January 29, 2017), and Susan Egan (March 17, 2017).   Series and single tickets are now on sale at www.musical.org or by calling (562) 856-1999 ext. 4.  Single tickets start at $40, or purchase the series for packages of $100, $150, or a VIP package of $275, which includes a post-concert reception with the artists.
