'Phantom' Star Davis Gaines Debut's Musical Theatre West's BROADWAY IN CONCERT Series

Musical Theatre West (MTW) raises the curtain on its inaugural "Broadway in Concert" series for the 2016-17 season. Each concert, held at the newly renamed Beverly O'Neill Theater at the Long Beach Convention and Entertainment Center, will feature top Broadway talent, including Davis Gaines (September 24, 2016), Valerie Perri (January 29, 2017), and Susan Egan (March 17, 2017). Series and single tickets are now on sale at www.musical.org or by calling (562) 856-1999 ext. 4. Single tickets start at $40, or purchase the series for packages of $100, $150, or a VIP package of $275, which includes a post-concert reception with the artists.

Opening the series is a Broadway and Musical Theatre West favorite, Davis Gaines performing "Broadway and Beyond," his first Los Angeles concert engagement in four years, on Saturday, September 24, 2016, 8pm in! Gaines is best known as the Phantom in The Phantom of the Opera, performing the role more than 2000 times both on Broadway and on tour. An Ovation Award-winning actor for his turn as Don Quixote in MTW's Man of LaMancha, he's earned critical acclaim for his performances in Les Miserables, Spamalot, and most recently, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels.

Other Broadway and National Tour credits include the World Premiere of Hal Prince's Whistle Down the Wind; Hello, Dolly! (with Carol Channing) and Camelot (with Richard Burton). Gaines also portrayed Hannibal Lecter in SILENCE! The Musical (LA Weekly Award, "Best Male Musical Performance"); Fred/Petruchio in Kiss Me, Kate (Ovation Nomination, "Best Lead Actor in a Musical") in I Do! I Do! (with Vicki Lewis/Laguna Playhouse), Parade (with T.R. Knight/Mark Taper Forum); andSide by Side by Sondheim (Rubicon Theatre/Pasadena Playhouse). Gaines played Anthony Hope in the 20th anniversary concert productions of Sondheim's Sweeney Todd in Los Angeles (with Kelsey Grammer and Christine Baranski), in London (with Len Cariou and Judy Kaye) and in New York, San Francisco and the Ravinia Festival (with George Hearn and Patti LuPone). He appeared in three PBS Great Performances broadcasts and has sung for five U.S. Presidents. Gaines' has recorded more than 30 cast recordings and compilation albums, as well as two solo CDs, Against the Tide and All My Tomorrows: Songs of Sammy Cahn.
