Today’s subject Psalmayene 24 is someone we can aptly classify as the whole package when we talk about artists in the DC theatre community. He is an accomplished writer/actor/performer and educator whose work has been enjoyed by audiences of all ages over the years. Currently Psalmayene 24 is the director of Arena Stage’s current Power Play entitled Tempestuous Elements. The show is currently playing in the company’s Fichandler space through March 17th.

RED BULL THEATER has announced the cast for the next offering of a new season of OBIE Award-winning Revelation Readings: Medea: Re-Versed by Luis Quintero, a rap adaptation of Euripedes' Medea, conceived and directed by Red Bull’s Associate Artistic Director Nathan Winkelstein.

The sixteen-track collection contains songs from 2015’s When I’m Free and the pandemic era’s twin releases, 2020’s richly textured After The Great Storm and the more fragile, intimate How Beauty Holds The Hand Of Sorrow, and also includes a previously unreleased, brand-new track, ‘Hand In The Fire’. During the second act of Kimberly Akimbo, eagle-eyed fans may notice that Alli Mauzey, playing the character of Pattie, switches the leg brace she is wearing from one leg to the other between scenes. The move is missed by the vast majority of the audience and it’s possible some who do catch it may think it an accident. But for Mauzey it has meaning. It saves her hips, but it also adds another layer to the character: Pattie, already established as a hypochondriac, is so much of one that she could easily forget which leg the brace belongs on.

Next up at A Noise Within, Manuel Puig’s Kiss of the Spider Woman beginning April 1, 2023 (with previews starting March 26th). Michael Michetti directs this classic two-hander with Adrián González and Ed F. Martin. Ed, a familiar face on the Los Angeles stages, managed to squeeze out some time between rehearsals to answer a few of my queries.  

On Thursday, April 20, 2023 at 6:00pm, the Joan W. and Irving B. Harris Theater in Chicago will present cellist Seth Parker Woods in his multimedia concert tour-de-force, Difficult Grace, part of their Mix at Six series.

The White Stripes are celebrating the 20th anniversary of their RIAA Platinum-certified 2003 fourth studio album, Elephant, with two special releases. Elephant (Deluxe) and sees the remastered HD audio of the original studio album joined with the band’s July 2, 2003 27-song set at Chicago’s Aragon Ballroom from their Elephant Tour.
