Urinetown now playing at MMNT - A musical so funny it hits like a warning. Corporate greed, drought, revolt—and the water still runs out. Laugh. Think. Repeat.

Review: URINETOWN THE MUSICAL at Roxy's Downtown
by John Dalton-White - Jun 6, 2025
Once you get past the title of the show and the setting of a public restroom, Roxy’s production of URINETOWN THE MUSICAL is more than bathroom wit – it’s hilarious satire that pokes fun at capitalism, local government, environmental doom, and musical theatre itself. From February 21 to March 9, Bastrop Opera House presents URINETOWN: THE MUSICAL by Greg Kotis and Mark Hollmann as the 4th offering of their 2024-2025 season, an offbeat musical that blends dark humor with social commentary on corruption, class struggle, and the environment. Entertaining an excited, energetic audience, this production showcases moments of creativity and ambition that bring moments of genuine charm, and the clever, self-aware script holds the audience's attention despite some normal opening night mishaps.

by Taylor Clemons - Feb 22, 2025
What did our critic think of URINETOWN at Derby Dinner Playhouse? What is Urinetown? For the purposes of this review, I’m going to be referring to the musical, not the place. Urinetown premiered on Broadway in 2001 and was an early, popular example of meta-satire in the Broadway musical landscape. In the story, society has begun to run out of water, which means the once leisurely activity of relieving one’s self is no longer free. Private bathrooms are outlawed, and everyone has to pay to take care of their business.
