by Susan Guntly - Jun 13, 2025
Find time this weekend to experience Wichita Community Theatre’s comedic marathon Lend Me A Soprano by Ken Ludwig. A rewrite of the Tony Award winning play Lend Me A Tenor, a summer theatre favorite for decades, which had become a bit culturally dusty in recent times.
Review: BALANCHINE: THREE SIGNATURE WORKS, Royal Ballet And Opera
by Matthew Paluch - Mar 31, 2025
The Royal Ballet continue The Dance Reflections by Van Cleef & Arpels Festival with Balanchine: Three Signature Works. And the triple bill is also an excuse to celebrate Patricia Neary. Neary has been setting Balanchine works for 57 years, and been a member of the RB family for a long time. This programme is her final one in London, and she'll be missed by all, as her staging capabilities speak for themselves.

by Mary Lincer - Feb 7, 2025
In the late 1960s (in her late 60s), cabaret étoile Mabel Mercer added the utterly goofy 'Wait 'til We're 65' (by Lerner & Lane) to her sets; when she was well past 50, Barbara Cook began including Harper & Zippel's wildly funny 'The Ingenue' to her shows, simultaneously sending up her rivals and ageism.

Florance and Jamison Star As Ethel Waters in Kennie Playhouse Theatre's HIS EYE IS ON THE SPARROW
by Jeffrey Ellis - Sep 28, 2023
While we wait for Ethel Waters to get the large-scale showbiz treatment she deserves, Nashville audiences, for now at least, can show respect and give recognition to the legendary figure who is brought to life onstage once more by Connye Florance and Saaneah Jamison via the Kennie Playhouse Theatre production of Parr’s His Eye Is On the Sparrow: The Ethel Waters Musical. Director Kennie Dozier’s production is somewhat uneven, but his two leading ladies – the aforementioned Florance and Jamison – are mesmerizing, each one creating her own indelible portrait and unique interpretation of Ethel Waters in two acts that feature some of her best-known songs, tunes that are a part of the Great American Songbook and among the most haunting, most beautiful melodies ever written.
