Composer Kurt Erickson has won First Prize in the National Association of Teachers of Singing 2020 Art Song Composition Award for his composition 'Here, Bullet (Song Set for Baritone and Piano)' based on poems written by Brian Turner during his time serving in the Iraq War.

The Asian American Arts Alliance, with support from the New York Community Trust, has announced two new fellowship opportunities for emerging Asian American artists: the 2020 Jadin Wong Fellowship and the 2020 Van Lier Fellowship.

I admit this is an absolutely personal, totally one-sided view of what gave one man opera thrills last year and what I will look back on with delight. Some are old works, some are new, some are individual performers, some are ensembles, some are complete productions, some are merely the highlight of an evening, most are domestic, a few are foreign. In any case, as the new decade begins, I recall that these are the vocal highlights that made my heart beat a little faster and made me look forward to the year ahead.

As BroadwayWorld reported earlier this month, rumors have been circulating that  the upcoming Cats film will miss multiple awards deadlines for this upcoming award season. Members of the New York Film Critics were told that it wouldn't see the film before mid-December, meaning that it would miss the deadlines for the Golden Globes, which has its final screening on December 4, National Board of Review, which announces its winners December 3, the SAG Awards, which close nominations on December 8. Now according to Variety, the film will indeed meet the early deadlines. Members of the Hollywood Foreign Press will see the film in early December.

It has been revealed that the upcoming Cats film will miss multiple awards deadlines for this upcoming award season.

The 4th Annual Adirondack Film Festival, presented by the Adirondack Theatre Festival has announced its full slate of films and special guests.  This year's lineup includes more than 135 films shown in one weekend (October 17-20) across 6 screens in Downtown Glens Falls.  To open the festival, AFF will feature James Franco's PRETENDERS – shot entirely in Albany and the Capital Reigon.

Celebrating its 37th anniversary, Outfest - the Los Angeles-based nonprofit organization promoting equality by creating, sharing, and protecting LGBTQ stories on the screen - today announced the complete programming lineup for the 2019 Outfest Los Angeles LGBTQ Film Festival, presented by HBO. The nation's leading LGBTQ festival will be held July 18-28, 2019.

The National YoungArts Foundation (YoungArts) announced that applications for the 2020 YoungArts competition will be accepted beginning today, June 4, through October 11, 2019 at youngarts.org/apply. Approximately 700 of the country's most accomplished 15- to 18-year-old artists will be selected through a blind adjudication process and provided with lifelong support through funding, mentorship, community, and creative and professional development opportunities.

Broadcast Music, Inc. (BMI) would like to announce that the BMI Lehman Engel Musical Theatre Workshop is accepting applications for its first-year composer and lyricist class. The application deadline is end of day on Thursday, August 1st. This prestigious workshop begins in September 2019 and will conclude in June 2020.

The 72nd Annual Tony Awards are this Sunday June 10th at 8/9c hosted by Josh Groban and Sara Bareilles. Last night, BMI (Broadcast Music, Inc.) paid tribute to the best in songwriting at its 67th Annual BMI Pop Awards held at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Beverly Hills, California. World-renowned singer/songwriter and musician Stingwas celebrated for “Every Breath You Take” becoming the Most Performed Song in BMI's repertoire of over 14 million musical works, GRAMMY Award-winning band Imagine Dragons received the BMI President's Award and legendary music publishing executiveMartin Bandier was named a BMI Icon. The private event, hosted by BMI President and CEO Mike O'Neill and Vice President, Worldwide Creative Barbara Cane, also saluted the songwriters and publishers of the past year's most-performed Pop songs in the United States from BMI's extensive catalog.

In 1983, a three-act groundbreaking work, Torch Song Trilogy, was one of the big winners on Tony night, picking up awards for Best Play and Best Leading Actor in a play for it's author and leading man, then-newcomer Harvey Fierstein.

It was just announced by Pulitzer Prize Administrator Dana Canedy that Jackie Sibblies Drury's Fairview has officially won the 2019 Pulitzer Prize for Drama.

Andrew Dykstal, a writer from Arlington, VA, has been named the Grand Prize Winner of the 35th Annual Writers of the Future, and Aliya Chen, an illustrator from Fair Oaks, CA has been named the Grand Prize Winner of the 30th Annual Illustrators of the Future L. Ron Hubbard Achievement Awards for Writers and Illustrators of the Future Contests in the genres of Science Fiction & Fantasy held at the Taglyan Cultural Complex in Hollywood, CA on Friday evening, April 5, 2019.  A capacity crowd of 400 people attended the Black-Tie GALA. Presented by Author Services, Inc. and Galaxy Press, the theme for the two-hour awards show was Retro Robotics.

On February 22, 2019, Los Angeles Opera presented David Lang's one-man opera, THE LOSER. Lang, who won the 2008 Pulitzer Prize for his LITTLE MATCH GIRL PASSION, not only wrote the music, he also fashioned the English libretto after the 1983 German novel by Thomas Bernhard.
