For Memorial Day Weekend 2022, artist, writer and activist John Sims will present AfroDixia: Journey To Justice in Austin, Texas. This multimedia happening is a part of a 20-year project that engages Confederate iconography, cultural politics of white supremacy and transformative healing, featuring the artist’s 7th annual Burn and Bury performance, film screening and Afro-Dixie Remixes. Out of the 330 total Chicagoland high school students who entered the 13th annual August Wilson Monologue and Design Competitions, Demi Davis from Senn High School prevailed, taking the first-place prize at the Chicago finals earlier this month for her 2-3-minute monologue performance.
