Riding the wave of renewed interest in August Wilson's 10 play, American Century Cycle, South Coast Repertory has one particular Wilson drama on their sonar at the moment: GEM OF THE OCEAN, the riveting, epic-sized 2003 drama now continuing at the Costa Mesa theater through November 11. An exquisitely rendered, mesmerizing production superbly directed by Kent Gash and featuring a truly impressive, excellent ensemble cast, SCR's new regional production of GEM OF THE OCEAN combines a bountiful interweaving of historical references, personal and emotionally-tinged character confessionals, and mystical, magical elements to fashion one of the most fascinating and engaging works of drama I have experienced in this Tony Award-winning regional theater.

Three men - a great American playwright, his trusted and loyal assistant, and a young Canadian street hustler - find themselves together for two days in a hotel room in Vancouver. The ensuing battle for power, love and loyalty is frequently funny, engagingly dark and ultimately moving. HIS GREATNESS, inspired by a 'potentially true story' during the declining days of Tennessee Williams, is an intimate insight into the mind of a familiar public figure, grappling with the loss of former glory and desperate for a return to form and success. Pride Films and Plays will stage the play from October 14 November 12, 2017 in The Buena, the 50-seat venue of the Pride Arts Center. The Buena is located at 4147 N. Broadway, Chicago. The press opening will be Tuesday, October 17 at 7:30 pm.

The Kitchen is pleased to present the world premiere of Yarn/Wire: Enno Poppe, October 6. Admired for the energy and precision they bring to performances of today's most adventurous music, this year Yarn/Wire are championing new work by Berlin-based composer Enno Poppe. Combining the complex timbres of percussion instruments hand-crank sirens, wood drums, cymbals, complex suspended metal plates, mallet percussion and found objects , all filtered through microtonal organs or paired with dense, perpetually moving piano complexity, and applied with the quartet's skills, this concert give rise to the sonic universe of Enno Poppe.
