Actress/singer/vocal coach Susan Edwards Martin, Lady Blues in Torch Song Trilogy on Broadway and star of many other musical shows, recently premiered her solo cabaret show at Upstairs at Vitello's. I reviewed the show and she was sensational.* She is taking the show to Feinstein's 54/Below in New York on March 23. Edwards Martin also has created an original show about the optimistic way she lives her life called, 'Unlimited! You'll Have the Time of Her Life!", that had a spectacular one night presentation and is currently waiting in the wings for a full production. Busy, busy, busy, Edwards also recently performed with Musical Theatre Guild as the lead in Minnie's Boys to rave reviews. Ms. Edwards Martin sat down and discussed her career thus far, and about the story behind Unlimited! You'll Have the Time of Her Life! and her latest cabaret show. Before we start to look back I always ask a few less relevant questions about musical theatre.

 Congratulations to The Travelin' McCourys on their GRAMMY win for “Best Bluegrass Album,” announced today in Los Angeles, CA. The band's eponymous debut album was released on May 25th of last year after decades of playing-- the GRAMMY award pointing to both the band's work ethic and their innovative style of bluegrass which honors the genre's tradition and drives it forward. In the acceptance speech Rob McCoury thanked Del and Jean McCoury, saying “without them, none of this would have happened.” And it's true; few, if any, have blazed a musical path for their children the way Del has. Taking the torch, the Travelin' McCourys have proven that not only are they worthy; they're comfortable blazing a trail of their own. Asolo Repertory Theatre will proudly present the world premiere of KNOXVILLE in spring 2020. This moving and innovative musical will feature lyrics by Lynn Ahrens, music by Stephen Flaherty and will be adapted and directed by Frank Galati, reuniting the dynamic Tony Award-winning creative team behind Ragtime, one of the most beloved musicals of all time. KNOXVILLE is based on James Agee's Pulitzer Prize-winning autobiographical novel A Death in the Family and based, in part, on the play All The Way Home by Tad Mosel.  

Chicago's Bassel & The Supernaturals just released their new single 'Calculated Love' and premiered it over at Glide Magazine, which stated 'Calculated Love kicks off with a sharp bluesy guitar solo before bursting into a funky disco groove. Bassel Almadani lays his silky smooth and extra suave vocals over harmonic background singers and feisty guitar and brass grooves. Broadway has come back to Atlanta for another screen-to-stage musical eying a run on the Great White Way.

The latest album release from DEEWEE, the record label run by Soulwax/2manydjs' David and Stephen Dewaele, comes from Phillipi & Rodrigo. 'Paciencia' isthe Brazilian duo's 9-track debut album, recorded, produced and mixed at Studio DEEWEE in Gent (previously featured by Wallpaper). Boasting songs about the cosmos, relationships, nostalgia and signs of the Zodiac, 'Paciencia' will be available from 22 February on all formats.

Tony Awards Administration Committee met today for the second time this season and confirmed the eligibility status of ten Broadway productions for the 2019 American Theatre Wing's Tony Awards.

Mark Goucher is joining forces with first time producer Jason Donovan to create a brand new production of the much-loved glittering hit musical Priscilla, Queen of the Desert.

Full casting has been announced for the world premiere production of the spine-chilling stage play The House on Cold Hill, adapted from the best-selling 2015 novel of multi-million selling author Peter James, touring the UK in 2019, opening at the Dartford Orchard on 23 January.

Mark Goucher and first-time producer Jason Donovan have today announced that actor and Strictly Come Dancing winner Joe McFadden will star in their brand-new production of the much-loved glittering hit musical Priscilla, Queen of the Desert. The producers have also announced today that the tour will continue through 2020. The show, which was announced last year, will tour the UK and Ireland from September 2019. It marks Donovan's first time as a producer, having performed in the cast of the original West End production and two subsequent UK tours. The producing team is completed by Gavin Kalin and Matthew Gale. Priscilla, Queen of the Desert will preview in Dartford from 5 September 2019.

PARADISE SQUARE is a glorious if frustrating addition to the musical theatre canon, blessed with an exceptional cast, a stirring score, and the unbelievably exquisite choreography of Bill T. Jones. Yet, despite these riches, the opulent production trips self-consciously on its own ambition, with the whole adding up to something less satisfying than the sum of its exceptional parts.

The video for “Torch Song,” the latest to be released from J.S. Ondara's forthcoming debut album Tales of America, premieres today. The video was self-directed and inspired by Bob Dylan's first television performance. Watch/share the clip HERE.
