Hillbarn Theatre, the Peninsula's premier theatre company, announced today its 2018 SummerStage season lineup. Youth actors from the Hillbarn Theatre's Conservatory program will star in Honk! Jr., Guys and Dolls Jr., andBring It On: The Musical.

Constructed around a 14-hour interview, McKellen: Playing the Part uncovers the remarkable story of actor Sir Ian McKellen. From his upbringing living through the Second World War, working through repertory and West End theatre becoming a pioneering stage star, coming out and being a leader in the campaign for equality, to his mainstream film breakouts as Magneto and Gandalf. His work and influence transcends generations, celebrated here in this fully authorized insight.

Many people know the story of Shrek, the lovable but fierce ogre who unwittingly becomes a hero to both fairy tale creatures and a princess, but many do not realize that the film was also made into a hilarious and heartwarming Broadway show in 2008 which was nominated for eight Tony Awards and won one. While Shrek the Musical has long since left Broadway, that has not stopped the show from becoming a favorite for many local theatres. In June The Aracoma Story, Inc. will be bringing this delightful play to the masses at Chief Logan State Park. Children, adults, and all those who believe in fairy tales are invited!

Everyone's favorite swamp-dwelling ogre is set to light up the stage in Grand Rapids Civic Theatre's production of Shrek the Musical, playing June 1-17, 2018.

The Three Little Pigs and The Ugly Duckling and its all-adult cast will delight children ages 3 to 9 while entertaining their families in the 20th season of the Hudson Theatre Ensemble Children's Series Silly on Sixth.

With The Assassination of Katie Hopkins in rehearsals, Artistic Director of Theatr Clwyd, Tamara Harvey and Executive Director, Liam Evans-Ford today announce the 2018 Autumn Season for the company. With ELECTRICITY, the hit LGBT comedy/drama starring stars Terry Ray ('My Sister is So Gay') & Mel England ('Best Day Ever'), sparks fly again in Palm Springs April 9-11. This  immersive theater experience plays inside an actual motel room at INNdulge Resort, 601 S. Grenfall Rd., Palm Springs, CA. I had the opportunity to catch up with the actors as they prepare for this upcoming engagement to talk about their own careers and coming together for this very unique production. Here are a few experts from that conversation:

Mariana Valencia's performance Covers, Singles, Shout Outs is an in-progress research that examines authorship by questioning what gets carried into her work through the modes of proximity, relation and alliance. Through this process Covers, Singles, Shout Outs seeks to manipulate perceptions of life and its collaborators. The work is sourced from various popular and cultural alliances and this particular ensemble of sources builds a choral surround of references. The work proposes a lens for observation that positions our personal and cultural attachment to objects and subjects, and why (or, if?) we choose to live among them. In Covers, Singles, Shout Outs, Valencia invites the audience to traverse a dense field of collective reference.

According to Deadline, an untitled musical project based on the life and works of Hans Christian Andersen was just picked up by Fox 2000. Featuring music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz and a script by David Magee, the 'four quadrant epic musical fantasy' will be produced by Craig Zadan and Neil Meron.
