Everyone's Favorite Ogre Makes His Home At Grand Rapids Civic Theatre This June!

Everyone's favorite swamp-dwelling ogre is set to light up the stage in Grand Rapids Civic Theatre's production of Shrek the Musical, playing June 1-17, 2018.

Based on renowned cartoonist William Steig 1990 book Shrek! and Dreamworks' beloved 2001 movie, comes a musical adaption of Shrek and his noble steed, Donkey. Audiences will delight as iconic characters come to life in a journey to rescue Princess Fiona from a fire-breathing Dragon, in a quest to preserve Shrek's peaceful way of life. Along the way, audiences will experience a colorful fairy-tale mashup of fairy tale creatures, who will dazzle and thrill in refrains of "Freak Flag", "Story of My Life", and the classic "I'm a Believer".

The fairy tale has influenced not one, but four hit animated features, with a fifth film currently in development. For the Civic Theatre stage adaptation, Director Bruce Tinker has designed a production that will meet and exceed expectations for even the most diehard Shrek fanatics. As anyone familiar with this show will know, Shrek the Musical goes beyond the Far Far Away of the silver screen in its reach, boasting themes of pride, acceptance, and hope that defy our everyday limits.
