San Diego Opera's 2019-2020 mainstage season continues with Engelbert Humperdinck's Hansel and Gretel, which opens on Saturday, February 8, 2020 at the San Diego Civic Theatre for four performances.

Following on from their critically and commercially successful 2019 season, The Barn Theatre have announced the seven productions that form their 2020 Built By Barn season, which includes the world premiere of Vicki Berwick's stage adaptation of Michael Morpurgo's The Mozart Question, directed by Olivier and Tony award winner John Caird.

Upon entering the space the audience is immediately surrounded by the dwellings of a castle. The beautiful set design by Tom Hansen lent itself well to this harkened tale of Christmas in England. Henry II, King of England and his ward Alais are seen talking about their love and the King donning a Blood Red Crown that has been exquisitely crafted to the finest detail. Soon we meet the three sons of King Henry, Richard Lionheart, John and Geoffrey. All three are bastards in the eyes of King Henry and all three feel their stake at the Crown is higher, and more deserving than the others. Whether written into the script or a Directors choice, the use of Christmas carols, both modern and Baroque was a nice touch and lent itself well to the story and made scene changes seamless. A nice touch from the set design was having the pieces of the King's table fly in from up above and added nicely to the set. The texture of having the candles on every inch of the set, gave the castle a warm feeling and made it also feel very elegant and regal.

The Good Liar is a 2019 American crime thriller film directed and produced by Bill Condon and written by Jeffrey Hatcher, based on the novel of the same name by Nicholas Searle. It stars Ian McKellen as a career con-artist who meets a wealthy widow (Helen Mirren) online, and begins to plan how to steal her fortune.

Street Theatre Company has been on a bit of a roll in 2019 a?' there's been a spate of terrific shows, the move into an impressive new space on Elm Hill Pike that will allow the company to grow, and they've continued the legacy created by company founders by continuing to push the envelope in ways creative and exhilarating a?' and theater-goers need no better proof of this than with their Halloween Season offering of The Toxic Avenger, which proves that entertaining musicals don't need huge casts or technical wizardry to be utterly delightful.  

Creative Cauldron announces an open call for submissions for its new a?oeBold New Musical Voicesa?? Festival, to be held from April 27th through May 6, 2020. The festival seeks new and innovative musical works by women and women-identifying writers and composers. Queer women and women of color are encouraged to submit.

Gothic, Spooky, and down right Mind-Bending are just three words used to describe the deeply affecting, and resonating performance during freeFall Theatre's enigmatic opening to their 19/20 Season a?oeGhostlight.a?? Upon entering the theatre the audience is immediately incapsulated in a world of Gothic Noir. Like something bursting out of a?oeMidnight in the Garden of Good and Evila?? and blended well with real water, the stage was set and the mood was placed for an eerie and beautiful trip. Over the next enthralling 75 minutes two actors of supreme grandiose proportions took the audience on an unforgettable trip across the pond to Essex, and the opening night audience in mere sell out lingered on every word. Even a chill in the air lent itself to the spooky good time set before us. A true tour-de-force helmed exceptionally well by Director Timothy Saunders, two characters simply named a?oeMana?? and a?oeWomana?? took our breath away and left a chill down our spine that still resonates with me days later.

On Site Opera, an organization dedicated to presenting site-specific opera productions in non-traditional venues throughout New York City, announces its dynamic 2019-2020 season. As the company has grown in recent years, they have established a season that includes three core mainstage productions, The Turn of the Screw, October 25-27, Amahl and the Night Visitors, December 4-8, and Das Barbecu, January 26-February 11, along with additional partnerships and events beyond the boundaries of the New York City boroughs in summer of  2020.

The New School's College of Performing Arts (CoPA) announces its fall 2019 season highlights, featuring a series of exciting world premieres and newly commissioned works.

The Riverside Opera Company (ROC), under the direction of award-winning conductor Maestro Alan Aurelia, presents: Superstars! on Saturday, October 19, 8 p.m. at St. Teresa's Church, 1634 Victory Blvd., Staten Island, NY. ROC held city-wide auditions and the  winners  are the featured performers in Superstars! Gina Hanzlick, soprano; Chantelle Grant, mezzo soprano; Hyunho Cho, tenor and Joseph Gansert, baritone are accompanied by a 57 piece orchestra conducted by Maestro Alan Aurelia as they perform operatic favorites.

freeFall Theatre will present Jeffrey Hatcher's adaptation of the Henry James classic, The Turn of the Screw, running September 28 through October 27, 2019. Two previews will take place on Friday, September 27 at 8pm and Saturday, September 28 at 2pm.

Deadline reports that Rahul Kohli will join Netflix's latest anthology series 'The Haunting of Bly Manor.' Catherine Parker, who starred in the original series, 'The Haunting of Hill House,' will return in the same role.
