I had several reasons for wanting to see the West Coast Premiere of Jireh Breon Holder's TOO HEAVY FOR MY POCKET, produced by Scott Golden for Sacred Fools Theater Company, brilliantly directed by the talented Michael A. Shepperd, Artistic Director of Los Angeles' award-winning Celebration Theatre. I knew he would honor this delicate story of aspiration and familial love centering on two African-American couples struggling to find their way in a year filled with the promise of a better future for everyone, taking place at the height of the Civil Rights Movement when Freedom Fighters took to the road in buses to battle justice in the Deep South, firmly believing that equal rights for all people deserved to be the law of the land. And that boys will be boys and women will always forgive them their trespasses when babies are part of the equation by speaking out for equality in their own lives and homes.

Karen O and Danger Mouse will premier their multisensory art installation this spring at Los Angeles' prestigious Marciano Art Foundation. “An Encounter with Lux Prima,” an immersive, communal listening experience soundtracked by the pair's forthcoming album, unites their singular creative vision with groundbreaking audiovisual technologies. “An Encounter” sees the duo collaborate with an illustrious cast of fellow artists including creative director Barnaby Clay (David Bowie—“Life On Mars” Revisited, SHOT!), Oscar-nominated sound designer Ren Klyce (Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Fight Club), renowned lighting designer Tobias Rylander (Robyn, The xx, FKA twigs), visual artist Davy Evans and creative consultant Warren Fu (Daft Punk, The Weeknd, Depeche Mode) to bring Lux Prima to life. Further collaborating with projection mapping innovator Travis Threlkel—co-founder and chief creative officer of MSG's Obscura Digital, George Lucas' Skywalker Sound and Meyer Sound, the installation plays across every sense and is intended as the living, touring nucleus of the duo's forthcoming collaborative album,Lux Prima.

At Theater West End, you've entered the world of WEST SIDE STORY before even taking your seat. Getting there requires walking across the blue-collar, gang-ridden streets of 1950s New York in the Upper West Side. There's graffiti on the floor beneath you and the walls all around. T-shirts hang out to dry on clotheslines over your head. There's a basketball goal on the cage-wire fence the band sits behind. You might even be seated next to a fire hydrant or a traffic cone. It takes a moment to remember that this same space was home to Madison County's bridges just a couple months ago...

The first national touring production of the 2017 Best Musical Tony Award-winner Dear Evan Hansen will return to Chicago by popular demand for a limited 12-week engagement July 7 through September 27, 2020, at Broadway In Chicago's James M. The First National Tour of Dear Evan Hansen has broken the box office record for the highest-grossing week ever at San Francisco's Curran. For the week ending December 9, 2018, the production grossed $1.64 million despite only playing seven performances. This breaks the eight-performance week record previously set by The Book of Mormon in 2012. Dear Evan Hansen is playing at the Curran now through Sunday, December 30, 2018.
