Karen O & Danger Mouse To Debut Multisensory Installation AN ENCOUNTER WITH LUX PRIM

Karen O and Danger Mouse will premier their multisensory art installation this spring at Los Angeles' prestigious Marciano Art Foundation. "An Encounter with Lux Prima," an immersive, communal listening experience soundtracked by the pair's forthcoming album, unites their singular creative vision with groundbreaking audiovisual technologies. "An Encounter" sees the duo collaborate with an illustrious cast of fellow artists including creative director Barnaby Clay (David Bowie-"Life On Mars" Revisited, SHOT!), Oscar-nominated sound designer Ren Klyce (Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Fight Club), renowned lighting designer Tobias Rylander (Robyn, The xx, FKA twigs), visual artist Davy Evans and creative consultant Warren Fu (Daft Punk, The Weeknd, Depeche Mode) to bring Lux Prima to life. Further collaborating with projection mapping innovator Travis Threlkel-co-founder and chief creative officer of MSG's Obscura Digital, George Lucas' Skywalker Sound and Meyer Sound, the installation plays across every sense and is intended as the living, touring nucleus of the duo's forthcoming collaborative album,Lux Prima.

"An Encounter with Lux Prima" runs April 18-21 and is open to the public in limited numbers. Tickets are available March 1 via marcianoartfoundation.org.

"An Encounter with Lux Prima" is executive produced by the Madison Square Garden Company and Like Mgmt.

Artists' Statements

Speaking to the intention behind the encounter,Karen O says, "Danger Mouse and I wrote this music purely out of artistic exploration and the spirit of collaboration. It's the first music I've written since the rite of passage of bringing a life into the world. Having a kid was like communing with the grander scheme of nature, the cycles of life, the transformative power of the mother. These themes felt timeless, yet more topical than ever in the modern world, so cut off and abstracted from its origins. The music was calling out for an extraordinary presentation, one that brings people together in a heightened state of listening. It's gonna be a trip!"

"Karen and I had been plotting on working together for a long time," adds Danger Mouse. "With no discussions on what the music would eventually sound like, we jumped in. We were each other's audience alone really, but soon we started to see this world instead of just hearing it. So let's see if others can hear and see it together too."

About Marciano Art Foundation

The Marciano Art Foundation (established in 2013) presents exhibitions featuring works from brothers Maurice and Paul Marciano's expansive collection of contemporary art. The collection, built largely over the last decade, includes installation, sculpture, photography, film and a wide-array of paintings by some of today's most important and influential contemporary artists, from emerging to established, from the U.S. and abroad. Guest-curated exhibitions will rotate every few months, enabling the foundation to reveal the breadth and depth of the collection over time, while some signature works will remain on view for longer periods. MAF will also present occasional temporary exhibitions featuring works on loan from museums and private collections, alongside pieces from MAF collection. MAF is situated in the historic Scottish Rite Masonic Temple built artist, designer and educator Millard Sheets in 1961.

The renovation of the 110,000 square-foot building was overseen by wHY Architecture's Kulapat Yantrasast and features over 55,000 square feet of exhibition space and on-site storage. Former lounges, banquet halls and a 2,000-seat theater have been transformed into unparalleled exhibition spaces for contemporary art. A relic room, organized by Bard College professor Susan L. Aberth, features objects and ephemera left behind by the Masons, acknowledging the history of the site. MAF also features an outdoor sculpture garden, bookstore, and café.
