Pulitzer Prize-winning author of A Visit from the Goon Squad Jennifer Egan returns to The Music Hall as part of the Writers on a New England Stage series to talk about her New York Times bestseller, MANHATTAN BEACH, winner of the Andrew Carnegie Medal for Excellence in Fiction and named one of the best books of the year by NPR, Esquire, Vogue, The Washington Post, USA TODAY, and Time.

Stanislav Ioudenitch, Artistic Director of Park International Center for Music (Park ICM), announced today that their 2018-2019 season would kick off in September with a new performance home, the 1900 Building in Mission Woods, Kansas. "For the first time, we will perform our entire season at the 1900 Building as we adore performing in their wonderful spaces," said Ioudenitch. "Now between their two fabulous concert halls and their delicious restaurant, classical music lovers can have a full evening of fine wines and food, and cap it off with our world-class musicians! We are two hidden jewels just now being discovered in the Kansas City arts public."

Thirteen new independent feature projects from the U.S., Cuba, Kenya, Mexico, Morocco, and Palestine have been selected for the 2018 Sundance Institute Directors and Screenwriters Labs. At the Directors Lab (May 28-June 21), filmmakers will rehearse, shoot and edit key scenes from their scripts, working closely with industry advisors, actors, and production crews to help drive creative growth via an immersive and hands-on experience at the Sundance Resort in Utah. The Screenwriters Lab from June 23-28  fosters a similar environment of dynamic inspiration as participants focus on the art and craft of screenplay writing with one-on-one support from Institute advisors . Overseen by Feature Film Program Founding Director Michelle Satter and Labs Director Ilyse McKimmie, the Labs begin a year-round continuum of customized support for Fellows, which can include creative mentorship, granting, and guidance from industry professionals. 

Netflix acquires Cannes Film Festival Award Winners “Happy As Lazzaro” and “Girl” for North America and Latin America. “Happy as Lazzaro” premiered in competition and was awarded Best Screenplay for Alice Rohrwacher. The Camera d'Or for best first film was awarded to Lukas Dhont for “Girl”. “Girl” premiered in Un Certain Regard at the Cannes Film Festival where it was awarded Best Actor for Victor Polster.

Broadway In Chicago and Producers Tommy Mottola, the Dodgers, Tribeca Productions and Evamere Entertainment are delighted to announce thatA BRONX TALE will make its Chicago debut at Broadway In Chicago's Oriental Theatre (24 W. Randolph) for a limited engagement March 12-24, 2019. A BRONX TALE will be part of Broadway In Chicago's upcoming season. Subscriptions will go on sale in the fall of 2018.

NBC Shares Primetime Schedule for 4/30-5/27

The Artistic Home Ensemble will present the Chicago premiere of Lauren Gunderson's ADA AND THE ENGINE as the final entry in its three-play 2018-19 season, according to company Artistic Director Kathy Scambiatterra, who announced the season today. The 36-year-old Gunderson was the most-produced playwright in America during 2017, according to American Theatre Magazine.

BBC AMERICA announced today that it will air the Royal wedding of HRH Prince Henry of Wales and Ms. Meghan Markle, as a live and direct simulcast of BBC ONE's coverage. Since making his Broadway debut in 1959, The Sound of Music (A Novica Rebelde) has become a singular phenomenon. No other show has achieved such a lasting trajectory of success as one of this musical, inspired by the true love story between a young novice and a widowed captain, father of seven. After winning eight Tony Awards, the stage production generate the five-time Oscar©-winning film (1965) - including Best Picture - and settled forever into the affective memory of generations to come. A new version of this classic is in theaters from March 28 at Teatro Renault, directed by Charles Moeller and Claudio Botelho.

Performances of the North American premiere of The Rosenbergs (An Opera) begin this week. The special event is produced by Boston University and Brandeis University, and presented by Boston Playwrights' Theatre (BPT).

Local favorite and the 2017 GRAMMY® Award winner from Hawaii Kalani Pe'a is up next, followed by genre-bending blues and bluegrass artists Dirty Cello. Blayne Asing & Alx Kawakami join forces for two nights and innovative African artist Vieux Farka Touré has his Blue Note Hawaii debut. Streetlight Cadence returns home to Hawaii for two nights, followed by artist in residence, Robert Cazimero. Next up is a round of local talent with shows by Keauhou, Josh Tatofi and Makana, which is a fundraiser for the Willie K Cancer Fund. Mike Lewis continues his series of tribute shows paying homage to Ray Charles, Louis Armstrong and Ella Fitzgerald, the music of Roberta Flack, as well as presenting a Big Band Extravaganza, featuring some of the area's most talented high school and collegiate level jazz bands. Josh Kaye and Friends will celebrate the music of Stax Records, which launched the careers of Issac Hayes, Wilson Picket, Otis Redding, Sam & Dave and many more. Gypsy 808 will present the music of Django Reinhardt and the month ends with a bang when HIROSHIMA returns to the Blue Note stage.
