Festivus is a secular holiday 'traditionally' celebrated on December 23rd as an alternate to the pressures and commercialism of the holiday season. Originally created by writer Daniel O'Keefe, Festivus entered popular culture after it was made the focus of a 1997 episode of Seinfeld called 'The Strike' which O'Keefe's son Dan O'Keefe co-wrote. The non-commercial holiday celebrations, as depicted on Seinfeld, include a Festivus dinner, an unadorned aluminum Festivus pole, airing of grievances, Feats of Strength and declaring 'Festivus miracles' (which are actually easily explained events).

What do you get when you combine many talented women with phenomenal voices with inspiring stories and songs from many beloved Broadway musicals? You get a truly amazing show, which is exactly what Fabulist Theatre presented with OUR TIME: AN EMPOWERMENT CABARET. Performed at the Kitsilano Neighbourhood House in Vancouver, I did not know what to expect from this show as it was unlike anything I have attended in the past. Overall, I was pleasantly surprised with the show and enjoyed every single minute of it. With a very minimalist stage setup in the venue paired with a changing coloured lighting display, the voices and stories of the performers were able to stand out in this compelling production.

The Bushwick Starr presnts the world premiere of Cute Activist, a new play by Milo Cramer, directed by Morgan Green, and produced in collaboration with their exciting young company, New Saloon (Minor Character), in association with Clubbed Thumb. Highly anticipated after New Saloon's popular production of Minor Character, Cute Activist is a playfully fabulist, wildly satirical, anti-romantic comedy, that asks questions about the way activism fits - or doesn't fit - into our daily lives. In a spoOoOoky town in mythical Connecticut where inequality reigns, a shadowy ring of part-time activists battle a baroque, tyrannical Landlorde. Only True Love's Kiss can save the local economy. Cute Activist is a pastel fable full of earnest questions about how to engage politically, at an everyday level, as a normal-feeling civilian.
