Fabulist Theatre presents: The Our Time Cabaret. A celebration of stories and songs from the time of the suffragette to the modern women of the #MeToo movement.

The first in what Fabulist hopes to be a series, the Our Time Cabaret is a showcase of eight diverse, talented performers from the Lower Mainland who will share their stories of empowerment through words and music in this dynamic revue.

The goal was to find songs from the musical theatre canon and beyond that empower the people who sing them. Each performer chose their own two songs; we wanted to give women the freedom to sing whatever they please and in doing so share their personal experiences. The songs range from modern and classic musical theatre, Disney, film, pop and classic rock.

The formidable cast includes:

Erin Aberle-Palm (The Skin Of Our Teeth - Studio 58)
Brianna Suratos Clark (Once On This Island - Fabulist)
Cecilly Day (Hairspray - TUTS)
Jaime MacLean (Matilda - National Tour, Fun Home - Arts Club)
Mandana Namazi (Sunday In The Park With George - United Players)
Regi Nevada (Little Shop Of Horrors - Vagabond Players, Songs For A New World - Fabulist)
Chelsea Rose Tucker (Les Filles Du Roi - Urban Ink/Fugue)
Sasja Smolders (Geekenders)

Music Director: Kate MacColl (Title of Show - Play On Words, composer of This Is Now)

Performances will take place at Kitsilano Neighbourhood House Hall, for a limited run from August 17 - 19. Shows will be at 8pm, with doors at 7:30.

Tickets $15 (until August 4), $20 (in advance), $25 (at the door).

Co-Artistic Producers Mary Littlejohn and Damon Bradley Jang founded Fabulist Theatre, a non-profit society, in 2016. Previous productions include full-scale mountings of Songs For A New World (Jason Robert Brown), Once On This Island, a Vancouver premiere (Ahrens & Flaherty) as well as readings of Dim Sum Diaries (Mark Leiren-Young) and Hearts and Stones (Mary Littlejohn). Fabulist Theatre also provided sponsorship to World Dance Co's theatre camp in Burnaby, which offers scholarships in the arts for underprivileged children.

Fabulist Theatre has collected donations for thematically relevant charities for all major productions. Our Time will see donations going to Dress For Success Vancouver, a not-for-profit organization that empowers women to achieve economic independence by providing a network of support, professional attire and the development tools to help women thrive in work and in life.
