Blue Note Records: Beyond the Notes explores the vision behind the iconic American jazz record label. Since its inception in 1939, Blue Note created an environment for creativity to flourish, encouraging artists to push creative boundaries in search of uncompromising expressions. The result was music with heart, originality and social conscience. Following a successful theatrical run, the film will now be released on DVD, Blu-ray & digital globally on September 6th 2019.

Totem Pole Playhouse, America's summer theatre, located in Caledonia State Park between Gettysburg and Chambersburg, PA has announced the return of Smoke on the Mountain one of the best-loved and most audience-requested musicals in the 69-year history of the venerable Playhouse. The hugely popular Bluegrass Gospel stage musical was first presented during the 1997 season and was so successful it returned again the next year in 1998.

The French Institute Alliance Fran aise (FIAF), New York's premier French cultural and language center, today announced the 2019 Crossing the Line Festival, featuring 11 performances and a gallery exhibition from a geographically, generationally, and artistically diverse group of artists whose work transcends genres and boundaries. All performances are world, US, or New York premieres; they are united by their convention-breaking fearlessness as they confront topics from social injustice to personal demons. Many of the performances pay homage to legendary artists of our time and previous eras, while the theme of migration and its transformational effects on identity informs several others. IFC Center today announced an impressive and wide-ranging lineup for the third annual Split Screens Festival (www.splitscreensfestival.com) taking place Wednesday, May 29 through Monday, June 3, 2019, at the IFC Center in New York City. The festival consists of special events offering a variety of looks at history, identity and the mystery of existence itself, including panels on series that explore dystopian realities and alternate timelines, and screenings that transport us into any number of time periods and places, be it a late-1800s South Dakota town or the height of 1980s ballroom culture in New York City.

Ars Lyrica's 2018/19 season finale travels from Brandenburg to Esterhazy, with Bach's two famous Brandenburg concertos and a concerto by Franz Joseph Haydn. The second "Brandenburg" concerto offers the set's oddest combination of soloists-recorder, oboe, violin, and trumpet-while the fourth is a stealth concerto, ostensibly for violin and two recorders, though the violinist leaves everyone in the dust. Baroque violinist Ingrid Matthews joins harpsichordist and artistic director Matthew Dirst at center stage, along with Paul Leenhouts (recorder), Kathryn Montoya (Baroque oboe), and Nathaniel Mayfield (natural trumpet).

With book by Enda Walsh, music and lyrics by Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova, and based on the motion picture written and directed by John Carney, Once runs live on stage at the Barrette Center for the Arts in White River Junction, VT April 10 - May 19. New York City Ballet will open its 2019-20 Season at Lincoln Center on Tuesday, September 17 with George Balanchine's full-length Jewels. The season will continue with 21 weeks of performances, through Sunday, May 31, and will feature 54 ballets and choreography by 12 different choreographers.

The University of New Mexico's Department of Theatre and Dance is pleased to announce the world premiere 1n2ian ('Indian') by Jay B. Muskett, a 3rd year student in UNM's award winning MFA in Dramatic Writing Program. 1n2ian, directed by Gleason Bauer, will be presented as part of the 2019 Linnell Festival of New Plays, with performances April 11 through 14, 2019 in Rodey Theatre on UNM's Main Campus. This year's Festival also includes directed readings of new works by 2nd year MFA playwrights Aniello Fontano and Nelle Tankus as well as a reading by 1st year MFA playwright Shannon Flynn. A special addition the year will be a fully staged new play for young audiences, (Don't You) Forget About Me, created in collaboration with DATA High School.

The 18th annual Tribeca Film Festival, presented by AT&T, today announced its 2019 lineup of 63 diverse and engaging short films in competition, including 31 world premieres. This year's shorts program includes a cross-section of international and U.S. filmmakers, curated from a record 5131 submissions with female filmmakers directing 45% of the selections. The short films will be presented in 11 distinct competition programs, consisting of six narrative, four documentary, and one animation program. There will also be special screening programs for the annual Tribeca/ESPN Sports Film Festival and the debut of shorts from The Queen Collective, a program aimed at accelerating gender and racial equality behind the camera. The 2019 shorts lineup is programmed by Sharon Badal and Ben Thompson. The 2019 Tribeca Film Festival takes place April 24 - May 5.

The 2019 Tribeca Film Festival, presented by AT&T, today unveiled its feature film lineup. Continuing its tradition of elevating exceptional storytelling rooted in today's global film communities, the 18th annual Festival will showcase debut works from emerging talent and new works from notable filmmakers. The program includes discoveries, comedies, music-centered, political and social films. The 2019 Tribeca Film Festival takes place April 24 - May 5.

MILES DAVIS: BIRTH OF THE COOL will debut in the Documentary Premieres category at Sundance Film Festival 2019. The feature-length documentary, directed by Emmy Award-winner Stanley Nelson, is a co-production of Eagle Rock Entertainment, Firelight Films, and American Masters Pictures.

The Stratford Festival lost one of its pioneers today. Douglas Rain died of natural causes early this morning at the age of 90 at St. Marys Memorial Hospital, just outside of Stratford, Ontario, the city in which he established his career, becoming one of the world's great classical actors.

On Sunday, December 9, 2018 at 3:00 p.m. at Kaufmann Concert Hall, 92nd Street Y presents Orpheus Chamber Orchestra with 2017 Grammy-nominated British cellist Steven Isserlis in C.P.E. Bach's Cello Concerto in A Major, H. 439, part of a growing partnership between Orpheus and 92Y. The concert marks Isserlis's long-awaited Orpheus debut.
