As BroadwayWorld reported yeaterday, Tony Award-nominated director Nicholas Martin passed away on April 30th at the age of seventy-five. Most recently, Martin directed the critically acclaimedChristopher Durang play, Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike, which opened on Broadway last March. For this production, Martin was nominated for a Tony Award for Best Director and an Outer Critics Circle Award for Outstanding Director. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Helen Hayes' 1947 Tony Award for Best Dramatic Actress for her performance in HAPPY BIRTHDAY just sold at an auction for $37,230. Hayes' award was a silver makeup compact from Tiffany.

David Gonski, Chairman of Sydney Theatre Company, today announced that Andrew Upton has been appointed Artistic Director of Sydney Theatre Company commencing 1 January 2013. For the past five years, Andrew Upton has been Co Artistic Director of the Company with Cate Blanchett. The duo's final program - for 2013 - will be announced on 6 September this year.
