Mozart knew a thing or two about how to please an audience. The great German composer wrote his Piano Concerto No. 22 to be performed in 1786 during Lent when the theaters and opera houses were closed in Vienna in observance of the Christian season just prior to Easter. But the previous December, he gave a workshop performance during the intermission of an oratorio titled Esther by composer Karl Ditters von Dittersdorf.

I had the pleasure of seeing CABARET as put on by Fairfield Center Stage, at the Trevi Lounge in Fairfield, CT.  Fairfield Center Stage has yet again put on a well known production in a brilliantly unique way that audiences would not get to experience anywhere else.  Fairfield Center Stage gets the perfect cast for the roles, and furthermore finds the perfect venue for each production, to provide the ambiance appropriate to the show.  The Trevi Lounge creates a wonderful intimate atmosphere for the cabaret show within the CABARET show. 

Although set in 1938, it's still so sadly relevant today.

If you lived in Berlin in the early 1930's you might have found yourself escaping from the rise of Nazism by visiting an avant-garde performance at one of many cabarets in the city. If, instead, it is 2019 and you are also looking for a bit of escapism of your own, you might head to the University of Connecticut to take in the latest production in the CT Repertory Theatre's 2019 Nutmeg Summer Series, CABARET.

Radio show host and songwriter Sean McCollough will release Earworm, his third album of songs for kids and their grownups, on May 11th. With 13 stick-in-your-head original and cover songs, Earworm features guests including Billy Jonas, Molly Ledford, members of The Lonetones and the Kidstuff Singers.

Look out, Atlanta! There's a new musical theatre hotspot in town! The City Springs Theatre Company opened its inaugural season in the Byers Theatre at City Springs Civic Center over the weekend with a razzle-dazzle production of the fluffy 1980 tuner 42nd Street, adapted from the Bradford Ropes novel and the subsequent 1933 film of the same name. The lavishly staged production, featuring Tony Award Winner Shuler Hensley, who also serves as the Associate Artistic Director for the new company, and Atlanta favorite Deborah Bowman at her best, is a bonafide triumph for director Brandt Blocker. It's well-acted. It's well-sung. And… those dancing feet. Oh, those dancing feet!

FotoFocus, the Cincinnati-based non-profit arts organization that champions photography and lens-based art, is proud to announce new programming details for the fourth FotoFocus Biennial-the largest biennial of its kind in America. The FotoFocus Biennial takes place this October, across more participating venues than ever, spanning over 80 museums, galleries, and universities across Greater Cincinnati, Northern Kentucky, Dayton, and Columbus, Ohio, and featuring over 250 artists, curators, and educators.

'Guys and Dolls' is based off of a string of short stories by writer Damon Runyon. His forte was tales of the seedy underbelly of the New York City crime scene of the 20's and 30's. The cast has a list of colorful characters that chew up scenes. Director Victoria Boyce brings to life the stylized and hilariously dated criminal underworld to life.

The Will Rogers Motion Picture Pioneers Foundation (WRMPPF), the operating organization for the Will Rogers Institute, announced today that actress Denise Richards has joined their longtime summer theatrical PSA campaign. The fundraising campaign, which plays in movie theaters nationwide, is a time-honored tradition that began in 1936 and featured James Cagney, Humphrey Bogart, and Bette Davis in the first public service announcement.

When the stage directions in a script indicate 'to kiss' any good actor knows it will be 'stage kiss.' That is, kind of awkward at first attempt in the rehearsal hall, but hopefully with practice becomes convincing enough to the audience without the actors actually becoming emotionally involved with each other during the run of the play. That's alot of information to digest for an action that merely calls for two people playing their lips on each other's . Briefly stated, that is the underlying premise in the Shaw Festival's delightful romp, STAGE KISS playing at the Royal George Theatre.

'Hamilton The Musical' is coming to Washington DC. The hit show will be performed at The Kennedy Center from June 12 to September 16. In anticipation, some of DC's finest hotels are crafting Hamilton inspired cocktails and special promotions for guests of the city and locals to enjoy.
