Alan Lerner and Frederick Lowe's 1956 musical megahit 'My Fair Lady' opened last weekend at Musical Theater Heritage inside its three-venue Crown Center complex with a re-imagination by Kansas City's Heidi Van. This cast is multi-racial and sensitive to the modern relative roles of men and women in today's society.

There are shows that I believe get rave reviews, awards, and heralded as classics because, at some point, "true theatre people" aren't allowed to not like them. If you bring up Oklahoma, Hello, Dolly, or The Sound of Music, and don't fawn over it for hours, you are expected to turn in your theatre card and walk away from all conversations thereafter. My Fair Lady, as a musical, falls into this category for me.

Neshaminy Valley Music Theatre's spring 2017 production of Hello, Dolly!won three awards from the International Music and Entertainment Association. The awards were announced at a ceremony on June 16 at the Paramount Arts Center in Ashland, Kentucky. The three recipients are Jackie Laurence of Quakertown for Outstanding Leading Actress in a Musical, Kyle Rodgers of Telford (Montgomery County) for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Musical, and George Kinsley of Langhorne for Outstanding Scenic Design of a Musical.

Last night, July 14, My Fair Lady celebrated its 100th performance at the Vivian Beaumont Theatre at Lincoln Center. The cast celebrated with a cake backstage and BroadwayWorld was there for the festivities!

As last season's closer, Geva Theatre Center's production of Million Dollar Quartet was a complete sell-out and was extended for an additional week. By popular demand, the show is back for a limited run, special production in the Elaine P. Wilson Stage from June 14 to July 8. With a book by Floyd Mutrux and Colin Escott, based on an original concept by Floyd Mutrux and inspired by the music of Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis and Carl Perkins, Million Dollar Quartet is directed by Hunter Foster.

Turner Classic Movies (TCM) will pay homage to the glittering world of Hollywood musicals with Mad About Musicals!, a special month of programming celebrating timeless movie musicals such as The Wizard of Oz, Singin' in the Rain and Cabaret. TCM is once again partnering with Ball State University and Canvas to offer a free online multimedia course tied to this programming special about the history of the musical genre and its evolution with cultural and technological shifts. This iconic show will be brought to the Charleston Civic Center's Little Theatre by the talented cast and crew of the Charleston Light Opera Guild (CLOG) in late April and early May.
