La Jolla Playhouse has announced the first four productions of its 2022/2023 season. The season will also include a re-imagined classic to be co-directed by Tony Award winner Christopher Ashley, the Rich Family Artistic Director of La Jolla Playhouse, and Helen Hayes Award winner Will Davis, as well as a new musical.

Back on July 4, 1993, Matthew Sweet was recording a live album at Grant Park in Chicago. It was a beautiful sunny day and there was a cool breeze coming off Lake Michigan. My theater pals and I were sitting on blankets enjoying the weather and listening to Sweet, waiting to hear all of our favorites off his album Girlfriend. One of my theater pals was a boy who was my best friend.

Legendary Broadway Producer Liz McCann Dies at 90

ELIZABETH IRELAND McCANN, the iconoclastic Broadway producer who won nine Tony Awards during a 60-year career in theater, died after a bout with cancer on Thursday, Sept. 9, 2021 at Calvary Hospital in the Bronx, according to her longtime associate and friend, Kristen Luciani.  She was 90 years old.

Last night, comedian Bill Maher received the Key to the Las Vegas Strip.  Clark County Commissioner Tick Segerblom presented him with the key following his show at the Terry Fator Theater at The Mirage Hotel and Casino.  Bill first performed in Las Vegas, opening for Diana Ross, in 1982 and has had a residency in the city for over a decade.

City Theatre Announces In-Person 2021-2022 Season

City Theatre Company, Pittsburgh’s home for contemporary plays, has announced the details of the theatre’s 47th season of new works, taking place in-person beginning in September 2021. Reopening to audiences after 18 months due to the Covid-19 pandemic, City Theatre will fully produce six plays, live and in-person.

The shows are presented thanks to a partnership between MV Concert Series and The Loft. The Loft will undergo a six-figure renovation of the sound and lighting systems funded by the Martha’s Vineyard Concert Series, bringing a theatre experience to one of Oak Bluffs’ best hangouts. Sound engineers will map out the room and create a system specifically designed to bring professional concerts to the Loft. While much of the interior will look the same, the venue will have a new professional sound that transforms the entire experience.
