Mozart's Die Zauberflöte (May 19–June 10), one of opera's most beloved works, receives its first new Met staging in 19 years from acclaimed English director Simon McBurney. In his Met debut, McBurney lets loose a volley of theatrical flourishes, incorporating projections, aerial and sound effects, physical comedy, a hovering platform, and acrobatics to match the spectacle and drama of Mozart's work. Maestro Nathalie Stutzmann—having made her Met debut earlier this season with Don Giovanni—performs Mozart double duty leading both productions running simultaneously. With the pit raised, the Met Orchestra musicians will interact with the cast. Gareth Morrell conducts the May 27 performance.

Immersive Everywhere’s immersive production of The Great Gatsby has announced casting.

New York City Opera will present a season of four free, live performances this summer as part of their Park Series in Bryant Park Picnic Performances presented by Bank of America. Rafael Davila will sing the role of Radamès in Verdi's Aida on Sunday, April 30. Jorge de León will sing the role on May 6 (evening), May 10, May 13 (matinee), and May 18, replacing Marcelo Álvarez who has withdrawn due to illness.

The Greek National Opera (GNO) presents leading French director Olivier Py's new production of Puccini's Madama Butterfly, following his acclaimed production of Berg's Wozzeck at GNO in 2020. Olivier Py, who has directed more than 40 operas around the world, embarks on his first staging of Madama Butterfly with a production that places the orchestra onstage and fills the outdoor venue with the aesthetics and colors of America and Japan.
