Birdland presents the return of Karen Mason, who stormed the stage with her legendary Christmas show on December 19. “Christmas! Christmas! Christmas!” showcases Karen’s unique interpretations of old and new holiday classics, including a slinky arrangement of “Santa Claus Is Coming To Town,” a heartfelt “I’ll Be Home For Christmas,” and many more.  The show featured direction by Barry Kleinbort, with musical direction by Christopher Denny on piano and Tom Hubbard on bass.

Singer/actress Karen Mason returned to the Birdland stage with her newest show, 30…and Counting on Monday, August 8, and photographer Kevin Alvey was there to capture the excitement. Check out the photos here!

Dorothy Benham is a Minnesota native and is a former Miss Minnesota and Miss America. Dorthy made her Broadway debut in 'Jerome Robbins Broadway.' She is a trained singer and has a book out titled 'The Bastard Queen.'

Robert John Weber, Jr., 63, passed away May 3rd in Wanaque, New Jersey. Born in Midland, Michigan, Robert was a dancer, actor and choreographer who performed on Broadway in Miss Saigon and Meet Me in St. Louis, in the Broadway national tour of Jerome Robbins Broadway and as principal soloist with multiple European ballet companies.

On Monday, May 9, Tony Award-winner Debbie Gravitte stormed the Birdland stage with another episode of her series “Plus 1,” with very special guest, songwriter Marc Shaiman. 

On Monday, April 11, Tony winner Debbie Gravitte premiered her new series “Debbie Gravitte Plus One” on the Birdland stage.  She welcomed her longtime friend Stephen Schwartz for some friendly conversation and intimate performances of his most beloved songs. 

Birdland presented Sam Gravitte in Songs That Raised Me, on Monday, March 7.  And as they say, a star was born.

Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS has announced the first Red Bucket Match-Up, an online fundraising campaign starting today to fund BC/EFA's National Grants Program. The two-week competition, with a $2 million goal, will help provide lifesaving medication, health care and emergency assistance to those across the country struggling right now.

Celebrated singer/actress Valerie Perri and her twin sons composer/singer/multi-instrumentalists Jack and Benny Lipson are set to bring their unique musical show All in the Family, directed by Barbara Epstein, to the Rubicon Theatre in Ventura for two performances only on Saturday, August 24 at 8pm and Sunday, August 25 at 2pm, it was announced today. JEROME ROBBINS' BROADWAY pays tribute to a brilliant choreographer and becomes a testament to the enduring history of great Broadway shows. If you love musical theater this one will be right up your alley, and if you love dance it is even better.

In January I had the absolute pleasure of seeing The King and I at the Morrison Center in Boise Idaho. I got to see Akina Kitazawa perform in the role of Eliza (to those who haven't seen the show she is in the second half of the show in the musical number ' The Small House of Uncle Thomas'). I got to talk to her about things from The King and I to dream roles within theatre. Her performance was absolutely one of the best parts of the show, filled with so much passion and beauty. The entire audience couldn't keep their eyes off of what was happening the entire number. Shes now in a performance with 'Theatre Under the Stars' performing 'Jerome Robbins' Broadway' which Akina will talk about throughout the interview. You can read that down below! :)

On this day in 1990, the Broadway production of Jerome Robbins Broadway opened at the Imperial Theatre. 

NiCori Studios & Productions is proud to announce the Third Annual Winter Gala on Friday, February 15 at 7pm at the The Unitarian Universalist Congregation at Montclair. Performers include Karen Mason (Broadway's WONDERLAND, MAMMA MIA!, SUNSET BOULEVARD, HAIRSPRAY, JEROME ROBBINS' BROADWAY, CARNIVAL, TORCH SONG TRILOGY and PLAY ME A COUNTRY SONG), Lisa Viggiano (BroadwayWorld Award Winning Singer), Karen Callaway Williams (Broadway's RIVERDANCE and PLAY ON), Meg Flather (Bistro & MAC Award Winning Singer/Songwriter), David Sabella (Broadway's CHICAGO). Just added to the lineup is "America's Baritone", William Michals. Michals starred at Lincoln Center as Emile De Becque in the landmark revival of Rodgers and Hammerstein's SOUTH PACIFIC.

Tony Award Winner (JEROME ROBBINS' BROADWAY), Debbie Gravitte is one of Broadway's biggest personalities and she is coming to downtown Milford, CT on Saturday, March 2nd at 8pm for the MAC's Nite Spot Night series in Debbie Gravitte: Live and In Person. This series is produced  in partnership with Pantochino Productions, and all performances are presented at The MAC, located at 40 Railroad Avenue South, Milford, CT. Debbie Gravitte: Live and In Person features Russ Kassoff, jazz pianist, composer, arranger, conductor and more. The duo will perform a collection of songs from Broadway to Big Band.

Founding member, Scott Spahr (Broadway's Chicago, On the Town, Jerome Robbins' Broadway) has made theater a vehicle for connection among his company and the larger community. While life is sprinkled with hard times and seasons of grief, there's one important truth we cannot ignore: We are never truly alone.

REPRISE 2.0, led by Producing Artistic Director Marcia Seligson, in association with the UCLA School of Theater, Film and Television Department of Theater (UCLA TFT) chaired by Brian Kite, announces Dawnn Lewis (This Is Us, Major Crimes and IZombie), Valerie Perri (LA Shubert Theatre Evita, Jerome Robbins' Broadway) Larry Cedar (Deadwood), Kelley Dorney (Annie at Hollywood Bowl) and Michael Starr (Bright Star national tour) for its production of The World Goes 'Round with music by John Kander, lyrics by Fred Ebb and conceived by Scott Ellis, Susan Stroman, and David Thompson. It will play September 5 through September 16 at UCLA's Freud Playhouse.  

The musical theatre goddess that is Debbie Gravitte swings by Shetler Studios to tell Rob and Kevin about her amazing career that got started doing Annie Get Your Gun with Gower Champion all the way up to her filling Eydie Gorme's shoes in the 50th Anniversary concert of Golden Rainbow! PIPPIN is the story of a young prince trying to find the meaning of life. Pippin's struggle to find out where he fits into the world is not unlike the 38 middle school and high school students performing in North Carolina Theatre Conservatory's production, which opens July 6th at the A.J. Fletcher Opera Theater in Downtown Raleigh. The students are part of the conservatory's Master Summer Theatre Arts School (STAS), one of the flagship pre-professional training programs of North Carolina Theatre. 'Pippin never finds anything fulfilling until he finally realizes he never had to go anyplace further than his own backyard to find what he was looking for,' says Director Tito Hernandez, who has been teaching at the conservatory for 18 years. 'It has a closure at the end and the message that you can search all over you want, but the happiness has to be within.' Hernandez first saw PIPPIN after it opened on Broadway in 1972, under the direction of Bob Fosse. But he says, this production is closer to the 2013 Tony Award-winning revival, including the circus choreography, acrobatics, and extended ending. And Hernandez, a dance veteran himself having made his Broadway debut in JEROME ROBBINS' BROADWAY, is no stranger to Fosse's artistry. In fact, he participated in a tribute event to Fosse before the legendary choreographer passed away and had the opportunity to meet him, work with his associates, and perform his choreography. PIPPIN runs July 6-8 at A.J. Fletcher Opera Theater at The Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts.

After much anticipation, Theatre Under The Stars (TUTS) announces Jerome Robbins' Broadway as the final show of its 50th Anniversary Season! The epic musical anthology that honors the career highlights of Tony Award®-winning director and choreographer Jerome Robbins will run May 28 through June 9 at the Hobby Center for the Performing Arts.

The Muny has issued a response to both social media complaints and a small protest during a performance of Jerome Robbins' Broadway at the theatre this week. During a segment of the show, reenacting parts of The King and I, a group of 15 protestors were ejected while chanting 'no yellowface' during a scene where a white actress played 'Tuptim', a character from Burma (now Myanmar) in the scene.
