The continued proliferation of rhythmless music plunges Fall For Dance 2019's Program 1 into a miasma of middling potpourri. From Kyle Abraham rendering Misty Copeland into a sterile robot to Crystal Pite's droning narration, this was an evening sorely in need of inventive rhythm and grooves. Thank goodness then for the visiting South Africans of Vuyani Dance Theatre.

New York's leading LGBTQ film festival, NewFest, has announced the full lineup of their 31st annual celebration of the year's best LGBTQ films from around the world. As announced earlier this week, the festival will kick off the festival's 31st edition with the New York premiere of Mike Doyle's Manhattan-set ensemble rom-com SELL BY, featuring an eclectic cast including Scott Evans (Netflix's “Grace and Frankie”), Kate Walsh (ABC's “Grey's Anatomy”), Academy Award-nominee and Emmy Award-winner Patricia Clarkson, Michelle Buteau (Netflix's “Tales of the City”) and Augustus Prew (HIGH-RISE), and will close the festival with the New York premiere of Rodrigo Bellott's award-winning film TU ME MANQUES, which was recently announced as Bolivia's submission for Best International Feature Film selection for the 2019 Academy Awards.

From his home in Los Angeles, Caird delved into his dynamic career a?" and even hinted at upcoming work a?" to give us a sense of what it takes to be successful in writing music for film and television. With credits ranging from his recent work on Fab Filippo's CBC comedy series Save Me and Netflix's supernatural drama The Order, all the way back to the start of his career with the beloved cartoon Ed, Edd n Eddy, Caird has remained an important figure in the world of music composition because of his ability to adapt to the demands of the industry.

John Berry, a Grammy winning singer/songwriter, who was diagnosed with throat cancer after wrapping his 2018 Christmas tour, has announced his 23rd Annual Christmas Songs and Stories Tour for the 2019 holiday season. After 35 treatments, including chemotherapy and radiation, John has been back on the road and entertaining fans since May. This Christmas season promises to be a reason for celebration as he reflects on his ongoing recovery and the joy of the Christmas spirit. The seasonal fan favorite performances are filled with traditional Christmas songs, including his incredible version of 'O Holy Night,” many of his most requested hit songs, and a few of his childhood stories sprinkled in.

When it opened on Broadway in 2006, The Drowsy Chaperone boasted an all-star cast and garnered five Tony Awards, including Best Book of a Musical and Best Original Score. You can expect that same quality in Broadway at Music Circus' third production of the summer, with Lynne Wintersteller returning to Sacramento in the title role. Lynne was last seen here in 2017 as Dolly Levi in Hello, Dolly! and as Mother Superior in Sister Act, where she solidified her place as Music Circus royalty and left audiences anticipating her return. Jac Yarrow is about to make his professional debut as Joseph in the most recent revival of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat at the London Palladium. He spoke to BroadwayWorld about donning that coat of many colours.

TRT closes their 20182019 season with 'Oo-Bla-Dee' by Regina Taylor from June 8 to June 30. The production is directed by Ruben Santiago-Hudson and features original music by Diedre L. The anxiously-anticipated arrival of Aladdin is finally here! The national tour stops in Sacramento through June 2 and brings with it the songs that you know and love from the 1992 animated movie, along with new numbers written specifically for the stage musical. After its debut on Broadway in 2014, it was nominated for 5 Tony Awards, including Best Musical and Best Original Score. Broadway World Sacramento was able to speak with Reggie DeLeon, who originated the role of Iago on the national tour and has returned after a brief hiatus. IFC Center today announced an impressive and wide-ranging lineup for the third annual Split Screens Festival (www.splitscreensfestival.com) taking place Wednesday, May 29 through Monday, June 3, 2019, at the IFC Center in New York City.
