Live theatre is officially back and Concord Theatricals is celebrating! The Axelrod Performing Arts Center has announced its grand reopening beginning in October, after 18 months shuttered from the pandemic. Michael Ritchie announced that he will retire as Artistic Director of Center Theatre Group on December 31, 2021. Having taken over the position from Founding Artistic Director Gordon Davidson in January, 2005, for more than 16 years, Ritchie has led one of the country’s largest nonprofit regional theatres, producing and presenting 266 productions.

The former residence of Black lesbian playwright and activist Lorraine Hansberry has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places, underscoring Hansberry's incredible contributions to American arts and culture. Her play, A Raisin in the Sun (1959), was the first play by a Black woman to appear on Broadway.

This is the case with the latest production from Central Florida Community Arts (CFC Arts) of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s CINDERELLA, a musical originally created for television in 1957, but given new life over the last 60+ years, most recently in a successful Broadway run with an updated book. The production, which is being staged in the old Express storefront at the Fashion Square Mall, is a strong offering of the Rodgers and Hammerstein classic.

The Juilliard School today announced that its 116th commencement ceremony will be held in person on Friday, June 18, 2021, at 11am, outdoors on the Lincoln Center campus for a limited audience. The ceremony will also be livestreamed for those unable to attend in person.
