The fourth annual We Want the Funk Festival, which takes place at the August Wilson African American Cultural Center (AWAACC) December 9 and 10 at 8:00 pm, celebrates the rhythm-driven musical genre that evolved from the R&B, soul, and jazz music of the 1960s that continues to influence today’s artists.

​​​​​​​Park West Fine Art Museum & Gallery is continuing its artist showcase series in August with a free exhibition and fan event with world renowned Metal Alumination artist Cris X. Held Saturday, Aug. 27 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., fans will have the opportunity to view Cris X's one-of-a-kind work, while he hosts a live painting, meet and greet and Q&A.

Two of ballet’s most preeminent dancers, American Ballet Theatre principal Catherine Hurlin and New York City Ballet soloist Miriam Miller, are joining the luminous lineup of this weekend’s Fire Island Dance Festival, which runs July 15-17, 2022, in Fire Island Pines, NY. The annual event is produced by and benefits Dancers Responding to AIDS, a program of Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS.

Newport Classical will present the world premiere of Crooked Shanks by Shawn E. Okpebholo, performed by pianist Aldo López-Gavilán on Saturday, July 9 at 8pm, at The Breakers (44 Ochre Point Ave.) as part of the 2022 Newport Classical Music Festival (formerly Newport Music Festival), running from July 1-17, 2022.

BroadwayWorld is saddened to report that Joan Copeland, stage and screen actress, and sister of playwright Arthur Miller, has died at age 99.

“Johnny & June” at New Theatre Restaurant is an outstanding, original, tribute concert reminiscent of what TV audiences might have enjoyed at home between the premiere of the “Johnny Cash TV Show” in 1969 and the final “Johnny Cash Christmas Special” in 1985.   This New Theatre Restaurant original features Scott Moreau as Johnny Cash, Ashley Pankow, as June Carter Cash, and Cathy Burnett as Country Comedian, Minnie Pearl.
