Popular American film director and producer, television writer and producer, playwright and actor Del Shores is an expert at creating mid-twentieth century lowbrow female characters; the salt of the earth Southern women on the surface who bubble with peppery torment beneath the surface, just waiting to explode. And now in his latest play, THIS SIDE OF CRAZY which Shores also directs at the Zephyr Theatre for its Los Angeles premiere, carries on the same tradition of a strong-willed, highly religious mother who raised her three very different daughters, each of whom has rebelled against family traditions and society's expectations - until they are called upon to reunite in the family home for some higher purpose.

Filmmaker Robert Townsend is a born entertainer, and his solo show a?oeLiving the Shufflea?? is perhaps more than anything about the pleasure of his company. He seems so comfortable onstage, knowing precisely how to scale his performance to the size of the room, how to punctuate a laugh line for maximum effect, when to pull back a bit to give the material some room to breathe, that it's startling to realize it's been decades since he's done live performance. He first came to national prominence with his groundbreaking, satirical 1987 film, a?oeThe Hollywood Shufflea?? from which his stage show obviously takes its name. In the intervening years, Townsend has had a prolific career as an actor-writer-director-producer in film and TV. Based on the evidence currently onstage at The Marsh Berkeley, it's lucky for us that he's turned his focus to live theater.

In his Broadway debut in 1988, BD Wong won his Tony Award (Best Featured Actor in a Play) for his ground-breaking role of Song Liling in David Henry Hwang's M. BUTTERFLY. Over the last year, in between shooting his two television series (as Whiterose on Mr. Robot, and as Awkwafina's father in Comedy Central's Awkwafina Is Nora From Queens), BD has managed to star in two theatrical productions of Lauren Yee's THE GREAT LEAP (in New York and in San Francisco), and now will be directing THE GREAT LEAP at the Pasadena Playhouse, which begins previews today November 6, 2019.

BroadwayWorld has learned that real-life married couple Matthew Broderick and Sarah Jessica Parker will come to Broadway in Neil Simon's Plaza Suite following an out of town run at Boston's Colonial Theatre - where the 1968 production also originated, before a 17 week run on Broadway at the Hudson Theatre with previews set to being in March. The production will be directed by John Benjamin Hickey.

KRIS KRISTOFFERSON, called a?oeone of the greatest songwriters of all timea?? by Rolling Stone, AND THE STRANGERS are coming to the historic Pantages Theatre (710 Hennepin Ave., Minneapolis) on Tuesday, Nov. 12 at 7:30 p.m. Kristofferson's mark on American music is undeniable. Among his songwriting credits are a?oeMe and Bobby McGee,a?? a?oeFor the Good Times,a?? a?oeSunday Mornin' Comin' Down,a?? and a?oeHelp Me Make It Through the Night.a?? He will be performing with THE STRANGERS, best known as Merle Haggard's renowned back-up band with original co-founding member Norman Hamlet, as well as Haggard's children Dana and Ben.

Seattle-based performer TATIANA PAVELA is bringing her intimate and brutal one-woman show BRANDI ALEXANDER to Edinburgh Festival Fringe. This is a primal scream of a show about rape: Howlingly funny and agonisingly uncomfortable.

The French Institute Alliance Fran aise (FIAF), New York's premier French cultural and language center, today announced the 2019 Crossing the Line Festival, featuring 11 performances and a gallery exhibition from a geographically, generationally, and artistically diverse group of artists whose work transcends genres and boundaries. All performances are world, US, or New York premieres; they are united by their convention-breaking fearlessness as they confront topics from social injustice to personal demons. Many of the performances pay homage to legendary artists of our time and previous eras, while the theme of migration and its transformational effects on identity informs several others.  The Golden Trailer Awards,  the most anticipated, fun and prestigious event honoring marketing executives and companies that create movie trailers, commercials and posters worldwide, today announced nominees in the 20th annual competition.  Evelyn Watters, Golden Trailer Awards Executive Director, proudly announced the 2019 nominees along with the show's executive producer Monica Brady.  #GTA20, will take place on Wednesday, May 29th at The Theatre at the Ace Hotel in Downtown Los Angeles.
