The Arts and Education Council (A&E) and Maritz have awarded 15 area schools with grants to support classroom-based art projects during the 2018-19 academic year. The program, administered by A&E, is funded by a $25,000 gift from Maritz with additional support provided by individual donors. With these 15 grants, this unique partnership between A&E and Maritz has generated nearly a quarter of a million dollars for art education across the bi-state region since 2009.

Stage Directors and Choreographers Foundation (SDCF), the not?for?profit foundation affiliated with Stage Directors and Choreographers Society, has announced the honorees of this year's Zelda Fichandler Award, Joe A. Callaway Awards, and Breakout Award. The awards will be presented at an invitation? only event on Sunday, November 11, 2018 in Manhattan.

The Players Club of Swarthmore opens its 2018-19 season with the Frank Loesser musical masterpiece Guys and Dolls Sept. 14-29, for ten performances at 614 Fairview Ave. in Swarthmore.  Directed by Anthony SanFilippo, this classic musical comedy about sinners and saints follows Nathan Detroit as he sets up the biggest craps game in town under the eye of the law and straight-laced missionary Sarah Brown.

Playin' Around South Orange kicks off for the sixth year on Sat., August 25 at noon, bringing live music and art in the form of hand-painted pianos and outdoor performances to five separate South Orange locations. Making their debut on the streets of South Orange are five thematically painted pianos that are available 24/7 for musicians, both young and old, to enjoy and play at any time.

Berkeley Repertory Theatre announced today that 15 young professionals have been awarded fellowships for the 2018-19 season. Theatre graduates from universities across the nation apply for this program that provides a year-long deep dive into the operations of the award-winning theatre. Fellowships cover a variety of artistic and administrative disciplines and provide specialized training that assists fellows with embarking on a professional career in the arts. Additionally, fellows participate in career development seminars, build professional contacts, and even serve as mentors themselves for Berkeley Rep's annual Teen One-Acts Festival.

Celebrating its 50th anniversary season, Berkeley Repertory Theatre announced today that single tickets for all shows in its 2018-19 subscription season will be available to the general public beginning Sunday, August 12. Prices for tickets to individual shows vary by performance day and seating section and are subject to change based on availability.

GRAMMY-nominated, multi-platinum alt-pop band, Plain White T's, are excited to announce that they will be releasing their highly anticipated eighth studio album, Parallel Universe (produced by Matt Squire [Ariana Grande, Panic! At The Disco)] via Fearless Records on August 24th!  The new album follows their 2015 independent release American Nights and marks their return to Fearless after 13 years. In response to popular demand, Soho Rep. (Sarah Benson, Artistic Director; Cynthia Flowers, Executive Director) extends the world premiere of Jackie Sibblies Drury's Fairview, directed by Sarah Benson, through July 22. In Fairview, the Frasier family (MaYaa Boateng, Charles Browning, Roslyn Ruff, and Heather Alicia Simms) is gearing up for Grandma's birthday, and Beverly needs this dinner to be perfect. But the silverware's wrong, the radio's on the fritz, her sister Jasmine is drinking, her husband Dayton isn't helping, her daughter Keisha is a typical teenager, and her brother Tyrone might not show up at all!

On June 15 at their annual convention in Denver, Americans for the Arts honored 49 outstanding, exemplary and innovative public art works created or debuted in 2017, including three Denver Arts & Venues projects. The honors are part of the Public Art Network Year in Review program, the only national program that specifically recognizes the most compelling public art as chosen by a panel of public art experts. This is the 17th year that Americans for the Arts has recognized public art works.

Berkeley Repertory Theatre today announced that Kiss My Aztec!, a world premiere musical written by John Leguizamo and Tony Taccone, will fill the final slot of the previously announced 2018-19 subscription season. The musical, directed by Taccone, will be the final production of his tenure as Michael Leibert Artistic Director and cap his storied 33-year career at Berkeley Rep.

The Play Company (PlayCo), led by Founding Producer Kate Loewald and Managing Director Robert G. Bradshaw, today announces the complete cast for Toshiki Okada's Time's Journey Through a Room, marking PlayCo's third collaboration with Okada, translator Aya Ogawa, and director Dan Rothenberg, May 10 - June 10, 2018. This haunting play, set in post-Fukushima Japan, will star three Japanese born performers, all of whom are now based in New York: Yuki Kawahisa (Honoka), Maho Honda (Arisa) and Kensaku Shinohara (Kazuki). The play is both an intimate examination of how we move forward from life-altering events, and a study of how we experience time, asking whether we can ever be alive to the present moment. 

New Line Theatre, "the bad boy of musical theatre," presents the area premiere of YEAST NATION: THE TRIUMPH OF LIFE, the world's first bio-historical musical, a comic political thriller with book and lyrics by Greg Kotis, and music and lyrics by Mark Hollmann, the subversive geniuses behind the award-winning Broadway musical Urinetown, running May 31-June 23, 2018 at the Marcelle Theater in the Grand Center Arts District. 

Soho Rep. (Sarah Benson, Artistic Director; Cynthia Flowers, Executive Director) today announced that actor Charles Browning will take over for Lance Coadie Williams in the world premiere of Jackie Sibblies Drury's Fairview, which Soho Rep. Artistic Director Sarah Benson directs, and which the downtown Manhattan theater presents in association with Berkeley Repertory Theatre. Due to unforeseen personal circumstances, Williams is unable to continue.The production now runs at Soho Rep. June 2 - July 8, with opening now set for Sunday, June 17.
